I also think we can be oversensitive with our pups, and react to any comments other than people gushing over their cuteness. |

This reminded me of something I did years ago. I fired a vet because he did not comment on how cute my puppy was, after several visits for shots. I found him to be too stoic, and expected him to at least warm up to my adorable little Schnauzer pup. My "momma bear" response meant I had to then drive over 2 hrs. round trip to go to the next closest vet. But every vet since has done it right, lots of cuteness comments and kisses.:) |
Welcome to YT :) just give that precious baby a extra hug and tell her she is special to you whether she is big or little |

Our second vet, the receptionist hurt my feelings with a comment about Max's ears, but I ended up liking the doctor and techs so much that I ignored the receptionist. Some people say and do dumb things. |
I think it is sad we live in a society obsessed with public opinion about size. I don’t understand why people feel the need they HAVE to comment. I get the opposite on opinions, I get the “ My dog turds are bigger”, “ I see rats bigger than your dog”. “ My cat is bigger” blah blah blah!! It’s like you just called my dog a turd??? How is that something acceptable to say to someone?? It’s not and I will always come back with a sly remark. Don’t let them get to you, those type of people are not worth the time. :D |
I think people make those comments because breeders have truly done a great job convincing the public that Yorkies should be itsy bitsy. most people have never seen a yorkie of a healthy weight, let alone one if the larger babies. Rhett is 14 pounds. My newest neighbors have a bigger boy who could be Rhett's twin. They were shocked when I met them and told them what an adorable yorkie they had. They weren't used to having anyone know what he was. To be honest, if I hadn't lurked around YT for a year before I got Rhett, I might not have ever known, either. |

I don't get it. Wouldnt you love to then turn around and make fun of her or her kid. |
1 Attachment(s) Wait a sec! I HAVE A PURSE DOG!!!!!!! Attachment 389586 I have to explain the opposite. This is how my convo usually goes. "Yes, she's small, yes people call her size of yorkie teacups, but- She's not a teacup, she's the runt of her litter." Yorkies are conversation starters. No matter where you go with them, someone will make some comment. I comment on them (a yorkie) when I see them, even without Cinders! I try to get others to come to Yorkietalk whenever I see/ meet other yorkie members. Or if someone has an interest in purchasing a yorkie. I scribble down the site addy for them and hope they make it here. That's the best you can do when you want them to learn more about this wonderful breed. |

I felt much better when we walked into the back room for the scale and one of the male doctors said, "Ohhhh, look at the pretty Yorkie." :) |
