Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Rainy season means doubling yard patrol efforts...PLEASE Don't put yourself or your pup(s) through what we did last night! I normally patrol our back yard for yummy edibles before letting the dogs out. Well, last night, just before bed, I took Tuffy out one last time to go potty. It's been raining a lot here & normally he doesn't want to venture too far out into the yard. (He's turned into somewhat of a prissy boy since he no longer gets to go with dad in the semi!) Ok, so, he's out looking for the spot when very quickly I notice he's got something & right away yelled drop it. He's usually so good about dropping whatever he's gotten but not last night. So, here I am now chasing his little butt around the yard & into the house yelling "drop it" the whole time. I get him finally & as I went to go for the MUSHROOM still in his mouth, he growls at me. He's never bitten or attempted to bite but the noise he made startled me & I let go. Just long enough for him to swallow the damned thing. Long story short, I called the emergency vet & they told me the dosage for inducing vomiting with peroxide. They said if he didn't throw it up after a second dose, I needed to bring him right in. UGH! I dosed him & waited (he's 7 pds). Nothing. Oh good grief! Now dh & I are arguing because he doesn't think the mushroom will hurt him but I'd gotten online while we were waiting on the 1st dose to take effect & found that many wild mushrooms consumed by humans can cause gastrointestinal issues or worse! I dosed his butt again & within seconds up came the nasty evil mushroom. I want to thank the girls who were just a text away for their support! You cannot know how much it meant to me to have you all rooting for Tuffy. I'm putting this out in General so that as many folks as possible see it & hopefully avoid what we went through. He's fine this morning but I'll be keeping a close eye on him. PLEASE, please, patrol your yard!

| I'm glad you posted this. I know you were scared and you did the right thing. I have heard horrible stories of mushroom toxicity so it was not safe to just let it go. Now that tuffy is better we need to have a talk with him about not listening to mommy, sounds like he's been around Sammy!

I think what really scared me the most is there are SO many types of mushrooms. No real way to know if it was going to hurt him. I had gone back outside & found another "just in case" we needed it for the vet. Luckily, it wasn't one of those that causes hallucinations!! I'm hoping others see this & share our experience. I can't help but wonder how many sudden GI problems are caused by mushrooms in the yard.

| Well the gees are up north at my Brother's. The Ibis and Cranes and Pelicans and Egrets all eat fish so she leaves their poo alone

| Sherry I was so scared for Tuffy when you texted last night!! I am so thankful you were on your toes and realized what had happened. We have lots of trees in our yard and with all the rain lately mushrooms are everywhere. I can't even let my two outside because our yard is too big to make sure its all clear of bad stuff.

| I am very happy that Tuffy is okay. You must have been terrified for him. Mushrooms scare the heck out me. The rain and humidity have brought many of them out here, and sometimes they are small and difficult to see.

| Some mushrooms are highly poisonous and can cause death in smaller (and big) dogs! Denamarin can help prevent liver damage in dogs who have ingested a poisonous mushroom. Very scary.... so glad Tuffy is okay! (and Happy Belated Birthday, Tufster!)
