To the long haired yorkie owners... Hats off to you because I couldn't do it. Miley's fur smells horrible after she pees and she just had a bath! I think it's because the pee is sitting in her fur! I can't take the smell. She's definitely getting another bath. |
Or coat I should say since Yorkies don't have fur |
Has Miley's UTI cleared up? My boys are in full coat and they do not smell like urine. When they go crazy leg lifting to mark on their walks, I do give them a quick body wash. |

Here's a picture of her that I just took 5 seconds ago so you can see her coat. Oh and her coat gets so sticky feeling. Well not literally sticky but like there's something in it, urine, and she literally just had a bath 2 days ago. She hates baths and I don't want to have to keep giving them to her but she smells so bad :( |
Miley is adorable sleeping, and she has grown a lot of coat already! Maybe the mommies of the girl doggies can advise you better than I can. Does she have hair on her underside than can be trimmed? Or it getting on her outer leg hair and little rear end? |

I make Pee and Poop channels. I have a Oster Grooming Kit, which I've only used once, but, the Clippers and other items individually come in handy. I clip/relieve the area (a slot) where Poop can drop away from them without touching their Hair, and clip under their Tails a short ways (1/2") where that hair is away from the fecal material. About the same thing (mainly for Becca/Female) where the hair on the inside of her legs is "shorter", and doesn't get wet as much. Also keep paws clipped short around toes and heal, letting longer hair cover it. Really shortens the drying time, when they get them soiled for numerous reasons. |
Two of my 3 girls have a long coat, and I don't have this problem at all, and they don't stink. They all go to the groomer every week for their bath. |
I don't see a lot of hair surrounding her girlie parts to "hold" the pee. I'm not sure why this is happening. Mandie's hair is kept as long as it will grow so far. I trim her hair up around that area but she still has more hair than Miley, I think. I wonder if this is just the UTI causing the smell...? |

It has to be the UTI causing the smell. My boy is 15 weeks and has more hair than yours and he doesn't smell. I gave him a bath 3 days ago and he still smells like coconut mmmmm ... |

She is so cute. I love her coat very shiny and silky:) Pixie needs a weekly bath. I usually notice her fried chicken toes start to kick in and I know its time for a bath. lol |

Clavomax, I think, may be one of the sulfur-based antibiotics and that may contribute to the smell. Call the vet & ask. |

You can trim her hair up yourself on the insides of her legs. I trim Mandie myself. But if it worries you to do this, I would have a groomer just trim the insides of her legs up. Many here use wipes after their girls tinkle. I'm sure that would help if you did it. I think the med and/or UTI is causing the smell to be stronger, but wipes could help in between baths (to stretch those 3 days to a week). Mandie gets bathed weekly (most of the time) but she spends a lot of time outside and gets dirty quicker than mostly indoor pups. |

Sanitary trim would help loads. Ive only just started looking for grooves for Draco and am terrified of them cutting to much or see him shaved! I've been only trimming Draco myself. When he's all tired and sleepy I trim the hair in his belly, some under his tail, and hair under the paws. |

I have 3 girls in long coat and I don't have a problem with the urine smell. I do trim their hair under their legs and belly. Cali and Pixie are both on Clavamox. Cali for a skin issue and Pixie for a UTI and I haven't noticed a smell. Maybe take her to a groomer and stay there while they give her a sanitary trim. Miley is adorable and so much coat! |
