| A note, though, it is not uncommon for these Yorkies to cower when being called or trying to pick them up. My Mandie still does this. It helps to get down on the floor and call her instead of doing it all from a standing position. Even with that though...sometimes she still acts like that. I think it's just a trait they have. I didn't know this! Enzo does it all the time - and everytime I was left wondering what his previous family may have done to him!

| It does sound like your little girl has experienced some bad activities in her short lifetime. It is best to be very reserved in the way you approach her. Sometimes a dog just has to learn that you are trust worthy. Right now she wants to trust you but her instincts or learned behaviors are to be fearful. Try to keep her potty near by at all times to avoid accidents. Don't scold her. If you catch her in the act of potting where she should not just take her too the potty and say the word you want her to associate with the act. Giving her a treat when she gets it right will help her to do it consistently. I wouldn't work on the come command too much right now. Raised voices may actually scare her more than attract her. Take your time. Once you gain her trust you will find that much of the rest of it comes more easily. This is not like working with a dog with no issues. You are dealing with a shy, fearful dog and the approach just has to be a little slower and more reserved than normal. Try to make things fun for her although her idea of fun may be somewhat different than yours. |

| Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Funny happenings today, last night I had to tell her off (for a carpet poo) and put her in the sin bin for ten minutes (no more). She normally sleeps in my wife's room and did so as normal last night. Well this morning a real change. My wife was out shopping all day, so I baby sat. Normally she's with me continuously. Today she never left my wife's room, eight hours without even a look in! Is this normal or have I been rejected? My wife (who feeds her) suggested I give her some treats, but I think there's something more radical that has come to pass - what do you think? Last edited by docmartin; 06-28-2013 at 01:37 PM. |

| This is quite interesting because I was wondering a few behavioural things about my Bug. Whenever I get home from work she's in her sleeping spot on top of the couch. I walk in and she flattens herself down like a pancake. At first I thought she was scared, and that upset me. But she also wiggles so much with excitement and happiness to see me, and eventually when she starts running over to me, she flops over and shows me her belly. When I finally looked this flattening/showing belly business up yesterday the internet seems to indicate it's submissive behaviour to show you're the "leader of the pack". It can be quite disarming at first. I'm just glad she also seemed excited or else I'd have been really worried. That, and whenever she shows me her belly I take the opportunity to kiss it. Yes, I am not ashamed |

| Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Thank you, 'Meet out' is perhaps a little harsh for placing her in a kiddies play pen for ten minutes, anyway I have tried the benefit motivation route and today we are completely back to normal now. Currently asleep on my shoulder and causing a great deal of ingenuity to make this post. |

We've just completed an hours exhaustive fun playing and now we're both comatose on the sofa with her curled up to me. Thank you, your thoughts really are much appreciated. Martin | |

| Carers!!!!! Jeez...that's not what I would have called them Poor little mite At least she is in a loving Forever Home with you and your wife now so, given time, I'm sure she'll start to relax and trust and, no doubt, have you BOTH completely Under The Paw I've had a few abused foster cats in the past few years (one poor girl had been used as a punchbag by a boyfriend to get back at his partner) and I've always found a little bit of smoked ham works wonders in getting their nose interested and showing them you mean no harm Perhaps a tiny bit in your hand with you sitting on the floor and ignoring Crystal (beautiful name) and let her nose bring her to you and just let her take the ham from your open hand (no speaking to her, no eye contact - all at HER pace). Or if she's ok with you talking to her you could always quietly tell her how beautiful she is and how much you love her Once you get that first bit of trust and they come to you it feels like you've won the lottery ten times over |
