Need an answer ASAP please! Help! Miley has been having potty training issues and is peeing everywhere BUT the potty pad. I was told that it was because she had free run of my room so I restricted her to just her play pen. She is asleep now, thank god, but she has been in there for 2 hours now. HOW LONG am I supposed to leave her in there? I know she's supposed to stay in there when I am gone but when I'm home when is it okay for her to come out? Please someone help before she wakes up. She barked and cried for an hour straight :( I am going to make her sleep in her play pen tonight mainly because she did pee in my bed today and I was highly upset about it. She's only 13 weeks so I don't expect her to be a pro but she has to understand where she's supposed to be going before I let her run free again. |
I'm sorry you're having so many troubles >_< She should stay in an area near potty pads until you've seen her pee. Only then is it safe for her to run around out of the pen for a little while. |

Even if she cries and barks do I just leave her in there until she has gone? |
If you want her to have more freedom which is hard when so lityle try tethering her. Put on her harness then attach her leash to you. This way you can watch for her signs of potty. My 15 week old has a blocked off section in my room with his bed and pee pad completly covering carpet this way near me but restricted freedom. |

Hi, when she starts sniffing around carry her to the potty pad, or outside. My pup sleeps with me on the bed inside his crate, when I get up I carry him out or to the pad, he goes by himself now on the pad. I'm sure you will get more advice. It takes a little time but she will learn . |

Ok, take a deep breath and try to relax. You are now restricting her movements and that's the right thing to do but you don't want to leave her in her crate all the time. I bet you're glad to hear that. LOL Your current goal with your pup is to encourage her to go potty in the correct area (pad/outside) so I would suggest that you put her on her leash and fix the hand end to you in some fashion. You can loosely tie it to a belt loop on your pants or something like that. This will keep her very close to you so you can supervise her. When you see/think she needs to go potty, take her to her potty spot and give her tons of praise when she does it right. Never yell or scold her when she makes a mistake. My mother used to tell me "You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar." What she was saying is that if you are sweet, you will get sweet (or good behavior) from someone else or in this case, your pup. Dogs respond much better to positive reinforcement than scolding. You do want to keep her in her pen when you are away but not all the time. I hope this makes sense. Sorry for the long post. |
Courtney, I never put Teeka or Tatiana in a kennel to potty train. I know some do and it works for them. Tatiana is pad trained & also goes outside to potty. First of all your baby is only 13 weeks old and such a baby, yet. You should not expect it to be potty trained already. When I started training to the pad, I would take her after eating, after she wakes and after play time. You have to be diligent and watch them closely for signs that they have to potty....like getting nervous, sniffing for a place or starting to squat. Quickly take her to her pad and say "potty" if she tries to leave take her back and repeat until she goes.....praise her and say good girl go potty. If you are consistent, she will get the idea. She will have accidents and forget, just because she is a baby! Watch her constantly....if you can't then keep her in a small area with her pad. I am a stay at home grandma, so maybe it was easier because I am always here. Tatiana is almost 6 months and pretty well trained! She has had no accidents for the last month except this week. She has been sick with vomiting & diarrhea and is not always able to get to the pad on time. I can tell she feels bad when she has an accident. It will get easier! :) |
after her nap she will have to pee, once she goes on the pad then get her out of the pen. That will be part of her reward for using it. |
