| I dont know what to do with him Hello, i have recently joined this forum because i need soem advice. my yorkie max is approaching five years old, and up till recently, has been the best first dog me and my family could ask for,no behaviour problems what so ever and so easy and willing to train my family have gone on holiday and have been away for nearly two weeks now, (ive had to stay home because ive had exams due to being in my final year at sixthform). ive made sure ive walked max every day sometimes even twice as its good revision breaks and normally its a joy taking him out for walks. however, over the last week or so, his behaviour has become ignorant, ignoring my calls for him to come to me when off the lead, even running from me. ive been ignoring it because he has been known to be a little independant b never like the last three days. when i spoke to him sternly before he would always listen but now even shouting has no effect. im getting worried as today i took him to the sea front with my boyfriends mother. we sat at an outside cafe and once we'd eaten he began to whine (usual signs of bordom) so i left my boyfriends mother and took him for a walk accross a road and up a hill to a grassy spot where people usually let their dogs off for a run around. all seems fine for a few minuites then next thing i know max has walked off in the direction of the fairly busy road. i started calling him in a positive way, and he ignored me about to dahs accross the road, i start calling more frantically in a way that he would respond to in an instant, yet he still ignored me,crossed the road, and bolted for my boyfriends mum who he'd only met for the first time that day. i felt rejected like he doesnt like me anymore. could it be because he missed my family? i dont know what to do and after this even following other similar ones i dont want to let him off the lead again, which i hate the thought of because he loves to run free and happy. any advice will be amazing, thankyou |

| i think it is because he is missing everyone and may be acting out. i would see how his behavior is when they return. also i agree i wouldnt let him off the lead again...too scary if he isnt listening to your commands. hope he returns to himself once your family returns.

| I agree. I definitely wouldn't let him off leash any more. And go back to day 1 of obedience training! It never hurts to reinforce certain commands, even if they are 100% responsive.

| He could also be picking up on your frustration. I agree, on lead only till the family returns. I wouldn't take it personally, many if not all Yorkies act out when their #1 humans go away.
