| This part gave me a flashback to a bad vet experience: Quote:
I am leery of training advice that only allows for one solution. It does have a money back guarantee if you don't like the book.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | She wrote a lot on the site but I did not see one excerpt from the book. But she does have money back guarantee.

| Aw, is that Brit's Jackson in that video on that website? It sure looks like him. The video was too small for me to see if that was Brit but she was blonde and it looked like her. Just like any of these books, this sounds good but I've never read a book yet that has anything new we don't all already know or secrets to training a dog other than keeping training sessions fun, rewarding, short and frequent. Whatever methods we use, positive-reinforcement training sessions, patience and persistence, clear and consistent boundaries, keeping that dog's day mentally and physically challenging, interesting and fun plus always rewarding him for doing the right thing with lots of time for love and play seems to dependably produce a happy pet that doesn't misbehave or ruin your house with pee/feces. High-energy little dogs that don't get this type of life are often disruptive and filled with problems until they finally go manic or just give up and lie about.

I couldn't find the video you referred too. Where is it on the page?

| I am pathetic at training and I can almost guarantee if I had the book it wouldn't do any good. I need training for me more than for them.

| Admitting it is the first step. When we work with my neighbor on socializing with big dogs, she understands that I am the problem.

I'm sure not against reading all you can about dog training and behavior - it's a wonderful reinforcer of the things we knew and forgot but the claims so many books make that there are special techniques or special insights have never panned out and I've read so many. Even went back and bought really old used training books to read - that was mostly a shock at some of the older methods involving negative reinforcement! Also, I always love reading the stories the training books tell on the side and am probably going to get this one day for myself one day if it's more than just a short manual. But the more you read and work with dogs, the more I guess you realize that any method that is positive, repetitive and persistent that rewards the dog for getting it right and teaches you how to set, keep boundaries while learning how to enrich his life and keep it really challenging for him is going to work well. No one has to have any special talents. Still, none of the things Hillary Milne described about Yorkie misbehavior is exclusive to that breed but dogs in general so I wonder why she seems to stress that they are different and so must we be in how we interact or train them.

| Re Yorkie savvy Beverly Courtney has an e book free to train dogs. I was very impressed by her common sense approach and positive ways of getting my dog to behave. She also has ones you can purchase but I really like her mat training chapter (teaches dog to lie down and stay) and Boo seems to think he's a genius being able to do it for me. Read it. It is free. |
