newbie! Hello everyone! I'm a soon to be mom of a little yorkie boy ♥ He's only two weeks old and won't be ready to come home for a while. I was just wondering what advice you can give me. I have his crate, food, bed and toys ready. I'm just unsure what grooming supplies are a must. I also am open to name suggestions. |
Hello and welcome to YT :) It's so exciting to get a pup, specially a yorkie :) For grooming supplies you will need nail clippers or nail file, comb, brush, hair dryer, towels, puppy shampoo. I may have forgotten something, other members can help to fill this in :) Don't forget pee pads :) I'm not so good with names :( (my boyfriend named our dogs lol :D ) |
"Yorkies for Dummies" and "Yorkshire Terriers: A Smart Owners Guide"....these are two great books that everyone that has a yorkie should have in their library! You can use these forever, for reference during the entire life of your baby! Name suggestions??? I LOVE "Aiden" and will be using that on a puppy myself!!!! I am not sure about a harness for his age. You might want to wait until you get him home so you can measure him. When they are super young, I know ferret harnesses have needed to be used at first. But when you are ready to invest in a good harness (I'd wait until he's grown a good amount because you will probably still have to get another one in a year..they grow a lot in the first year to year and a 1/2), go for the Buddy Belt or the Chokefree Harness. Maximo sells the Buddy Belts and Lil Sis sells the Chokefree Harnesses. You can PM either one of them with questions. :) Welcome to YT!! Such an exciting time!! |

You will need his exact measurements. For grooming, all I needed for the first couple of months was a little comb and some puppy shampoo. |

Some treats to reward for going potty in the right place. Puppy proofing: Mine shreds puppy pads or any other paper product like there is no tomorrow. I had to get a "little rascals indoor litter box" It has something to hold the pad and washable fake grass. Also, I had to put an exercise weight on the grass or she drags that out. The indoor box helps a lot since I live in a condo and it is hard to get in and out all the time due to the stairs, crappy weather, etc. (Yes, she is a feisty one.) I also recommend a play pen. That way you can set her down in a room and go do the laundry or whatever. Otherwise you don't know what he could be doing, lol. I have a medium dog play pen. She has plenty of room for blanket, food, water and her litter box and does well in there. It also has a top cover, in case my cat would wants to jump in she can't. She thinks her play pen is her den and is happy with it. Bitter apple spray, in case the little one decides something needs to be chewed on, like furniture or wooden base boards. I prefer that to soap and cayenne pepper. The apple spray is not toxic and has to be more natural than soap. Keep plenty of options for chewing that are safe-small bones, plastic toys, even a few ice cubes. The teething stage seems pretty intense. I put a large area rug from Walmart over the living room carpet as well. It can take a pee pee accident or vomit and I am a lot less upset than I would be with my good carpet. I take the carpet scrubber to it every few weeks. Vinyl floor covering and furniture coverings are helpful. Furniture legs can be covered with heavy cardboard and masking tape, then spray with bitter apple spray. It has been an adventure. Finally she is calming down after 8 months. I love my Yorkie, but I also like my home.:) |
