Is my Baby overweight?

My Max was a big boy. Most of his life he was 11lbs and on a diet lol. But still fun and loveable! As long as your baby is healthy and your vet sees no issues, there's nothing to worry about!

(Just be careful with their back legs. If she ever happens to be overweight, it can be a little tough on their joints)

Yes we looked up all the things that are toxic and even bought a book on yorkies which my husband is actually reading! He loves his baby girl and its so funny because he wasn't to keen on getting a small dog. You would never know it now he's this big ole weight lifter who baby talks to her and takes her for walks its so cute . He told me the other day he's never loved an animal like he loves her .

I'm not sure he many he sneaks her when I'm not around but I know he loves her with food and I warned him about her weight, hopefully he listens!

Ya, I had the same problem with my husband and Peanut! He would “sneak” him all sorts of yummy food he was not suppose to have. However we learned the hard way. I would really limit her “snacks”. Yorkies are so sensitive and I think their little bodies can’t handle too much of anything.

I agree! One time he gave her something and she got constipated and was acting sick, he got scared and swore off giving her Mac and cheese!!! But I think I need to hide her snacks because I'm pretty sure he over indulges her with those

Max reminds me of Josh. Josh is eleven pounds too, and he loves to eat. He is a little pudgy, but I love him. I agree with your advice also.

Whether or not you yorkie is overweight depends on how they look from above and the side. Buster was my first dog and we loved training him and spoiling him with treats. I loved his little belly it was so cute. Sadly I got a wake up call from the Vets when he started having problems with his knees. I did not realize that I was causing Buster Brown to become obese. He had a harder time running around and playing and had even more trouble when the weather was warmer. At his highest he weighed 9.2 pounds. We have now lost a pound and am trying to loose a little bit more. You can't tell by the weight alone because their length and build factors in as well. Here are some charts you must view your baby from above and the sides. Feed your puppy Ellie but watch as she grows to make sure she stays at a healthy weight.

Yorkshire Terriers should be 8 to 9 inches at the shoulder and weigh no more than seven pounds, with four to six pounds being preferred.
Yorkies are inconsistent in size. It's not unusual for a single litter to contain one Yorkie weighing less than four pounds, one who weighs five or six pounds, and one who grows to be 12 to 15 pounds.
Beware of breeders who offer "tea cup" Yorkshire Terriers. Dogs who are smaller than the standard are prone to genetic disorders and are at a higher health risk in general.
That said ,Keno's parents were 5 and 6 lbs. He was 4.8lbs at 13 weeks and now at 2 1/2 years he is 13 inches high and 15.6 lbs. He is tall and slim, long legs and long body. He get 1/4 cup Royal Canin in the morning and 1/4 Royal Canin in the evening.

I agree with the others above. Puppies do not get overweight. There are Yorkies that are 4 pounds and then there are some that are 15 pounds. If you really are concerned go see your vet.

I looked at my vet records because I didn't know when I got him that I should know what he weighed. At 8 weeks, when he came to me, Huey weighed 2.4 lbs. 14 weeks, 3.6 lbs. 6 mos 3.6 lbs (I dont know about my vet records...seems like maybe they skipped updating the weight?) 16 mos 6.9 lbs, 2years, 4 months, 7.3 lbs, 4 years 7.6lbs.

If I'm reading this correctly, Huey didn't gain any weight from 14 weeks to 6 months?

That's why I don't think the vet records were updated appropriately. I know he gained weight and that they weighed him every visit, but for over 6 months worth of visits (of which there were several) there is no gain documented. As a nurse, I was taught "if it isn't documented, it wasn't done"...
