Is my Baby overweight? Ellie is 4 months old and weights 6lbs already! She's grown leaps and bounds since we got her 2 months ago and also got long, I haven't measured her . The vet didn't seem concerned with her weight but some of the posts I read on here and people's Yorkies weight 3 or 4 lbs so it got me wondering? |
All Yorkies are going to weigh different weights along the weigh so don't worry about that. Actually, IMO, a puppy can not be overweight. Yes, that's my opinion. As long as you are feeding healthy food and Ellie gets her puppy exercise, I'm sure she is just fine at 6 lbs. I am sure if there were reason for concern, your vet would say something. So, don't worry :) |
I don't think your baby is overweight. Puppies can't be overweight. They need to be free fed and they will only eat what they need. They each grow at their own rate and it's possible that your puppy may have grown a lot early on but will be having a slower growth rate from her on out. There's also the possibility that your puppy may end up being a Teapot Yorkie. They can get to be bigger than the "standard" and still be full blooded yorkie but they can be on the bigger side. No way of telling till they are done growing and that can be quite a while yet or maybe sooner. Just no way to know for certain. Just make sure that you allow your puppy to eat as much as she wants. |
Yorkies come in all shapes and sizes. Shes just going to be a larger yorkie. So theres just more to love. On here we call the larger yorkies teapots. I have a teapot and I love his size. Hes the perfect family dog and he can keep up with our outdoorsy lifestyle. |
A puppy can really not be overweight but if you are extremely worried about it talk to your vet about it. |
Puppies weigh differently some are smaller and some are larger. Your puppy will be around 12lbs. Feed your puppy 3 times a day as normal. You seem to have a happy and healthy pup. |

That makes me feel better :). I'm pretty sure my hubby sneaks her too many snacks which I warned him about! She's heathy and active so I guess all is well. I also figured she was going to be a bigger yorkie which is fine by me because no matter what she is my baby and we adore her ;) |
I agree with the fellow posters. Yorkies come in all shapes and sizes. If this is something you are concerned about please bring it up to your Vet. Did you see Ellie’s parents? Knowing their size might give you a little insight in how big Ellie will be… You should also be free feeding your puppy. Read the feeding instructions whatever food you are feeding- you can then split it up if you like. Example: Peanut is 5 years @ 4 pounds he should get ¼ of a cup total ( based on his food). So I will give him an 1/8 in the morning and a 1/8 in the evening.. give or take depending if he seems hungrier. He also gets a couple treats. |

When do they reach the size they are going to end up? A year? |

I actually did meet her beautiful parents and her mom was smaller maybe around 8lbs or so but her dad was a good size so maybe she'll take after him. I think once she gets her hair trimmed for the summer she'll look smaller too, she has a thick coat. |
