OMG I'm horrified! 1 Attachment(s) I made my Ellie an appointment to get groomed, mostly to get her rear end cut and a bath. I walked in and the groomer said "oh my God she's matted" I was like what??!! She asked me if I was giving her baths and I told her yes, weekly because she was a little oily. She told me the only thing to do now is shave her but to wait a couple of weeks because its still chilly here!!! I do brush her but she fights me and the brush bad! Her hair is not all tangly to me?? I don't want her shaved because she will lose all her black hair and will be all silver :(. I feel horrible! |
I would get a second opinion. Find a different groomer. See if they can work with her. |
There seems to be no shortage of "groomers" these days. If your dog is not matted as the person you talked to says then find another one. Some "groomers" only know how to shave. They honestly do not want to do anything else. So many people have dropped off their dogs with specific directions only to pick up a scalped doggy! If she fights the brush, have tried just combing her a little at a time? Sometimes it does take a lot of patience to train them to accept grooming. I would also be concerned that if she fights you during a grooming session that she will do the same with the groomer. That can sometimes be a cause of injury.. Maybe try to get her a little more accepting of the comb and try to find a groomer that won't scalp her. If you can get someone to hold her for you maybe you could trim her backside yourself. |
I think I would get another opinion by another groomer. Also I would work very slow and give your baby a treat while slowly brushing her coat. Once they learn that you are gentle and not pulling their hair they will trust you.Treats work wonders. Susan |
Good idea, I think I will look for someone else. Has anyone had good luck with Petco or Petsmart? I have tried doing it a little at a time and I think I need to get a better brush/comb and have someone hold her. Idk I just think shaving her is a little extreme! :mad::( |
i agree/ go to a different groomer/ the groomers at the pet smart are very good at least in Montana |
Also, I would recommend checking YELP reviews for dog groomers in your city/town. can be helpful! |

I'm not sure what brand but I attacked a pic, I bought it at Petco when I got her. I actually just brushed her and she let me!!! She had a few snags but IMO she wasn't matted or snarly? |
It won't let me post the pic of the brush says the file is too big?? I called petsmart, they have a puppy bath service and spoke to the girl who seemed to know what she was talking about....I will find out if I can stay I definitely will NOT leave her alone there. |
I started my puppy out just brushing a little bit every night and kept at it. Don't give up and be patient. Try to do it when you are watching TV or find another time when you are relaxed. I also did this getting her used to the clippers. At first I didn't have a clippers so I used my Sonic toothbrush (not the brush part, only the handle) and kept running over her body and head until she got used to the sound and vibration. Eventually I found a small, cheap Wahl clippers and did the same thing to her. Now she usually doesn't flinch at the groomers and is more relaxed. Just be consistent and keep brushing. I know trying to brush a squirming puppy is hard but keep in mind it's for the puppy's own good. I know you can do it. |
Thanks I will try that, I think I was picking the wrong times to try o brush her, I need to wait until he's more relaxed. How many times a day should she be brushed? |
