She looks younger, and when the adult coat starts coming in, they can tend to tangle right at the skin. It can be nasty if you don't keep it brushed. Be sure to get down deep when you brush, not just the top layer. I also like the Madan Brush. |

My Chloe hates to be brushed fights me all the time and I use the Maden Brush. I mostly use a metal comb. You can find them at any pet store. I also have the smaller Maden comb which is a small metal comb. The maden one to do her face and legs. I also use a grooming spray wetting my Chloe down before combing her. I'm sure you could can also find a detangling spray at a pet store. I would try the detangling spray combing and brushing her before shaving her down. |

Thank you, thank you all for the great advice! I love this site, I don't know hat I would do without it! :). I am going to try finding a good comb and spraying her down with conditioner or a detangling spray before shaving her! Unfortunately, I live in the willy whacks and don't have a huge choice of groomers :mad: I think I may try petsmart after I try the good advice. Thanks again :D |
There is also spray conditioner that you can use to help make the job easier. I also use a heavy conditioner after a bath at that age. |
The groomer also told me not to bathe her before bringing her back to be shaved in 2 weeks. Should I bathe her and use a conditioner or do it while her fir is dry? |

I love the Madan brush from Jenny at toplinepet.com, but I also love a wooden pin brush. Maximo sells them, and its very massaging to brush with it. I think both brushes are important, and I also love the mustache comb that Jenny sells. I have read here that cornstarch can break apart mats, but I haven't tried it. I did read the link it was very helpful! I will order the special brushes for sure, but in the mean time what can I get at the pet store to start with while waiting for the good ones to come? |

One thing w/groomers that work for someone, they don't have 2+ hrs to take tangles off a puppy. It's just not done. Why work on 1 pup when in those 2 hrs, you can get 3-4 pets done, esp if you're a paid employee. You might have more luck w/an independent groomer that has her own shop (preferably not on the weekends bc that's the busiest time). It will cost more to have your pup dematted, but might not need to be shaved. When I was working for Aussie as a mobile groomer, I had approx 15-20mins to drive to the customer & 20-30mins to groom them, then onto my next customer the other side of LA...no time for dematting (unless it was requested ahead of time, even then, my boss only gave me an x-tra 30 mins loll). |

And if that is indeed the case, you are going to have to shave it down to get thru it...and your baby will not look the same to you....if she is a true black, which a lot of cotton coated dogs are, she will be black when you shave all that hair down.....her skin will be dark under that coat...separate the hair down to her skin....her skin will be dark, not a pinkish white.... |
