| Mixing foods? Joey is on Royal Canin yorkshire terrier food, and Carley (the lab) is on blue buffalo life protection. They both eat eachothers food...but I was wondering if I could get a 3rd food (like beneful or something) as more of a snack type food or something. Joey is a free feeder, and his bowl has to be kept away from Carley. But she always seems so hungry even though I am feeding what is recommended for her.

| Foods vary in calories and nutritional density. Mixing foods can upset the delicate balance of nutrients that dogs need. I would use your dog's regular food as a treat/snack, or use fresh foods -- as long as they don't exceed about 10% of your dog's diet. Adjust quantity of meals to accommodate the snacks in total daily intake. I use mostly kibble for rewards and a little bit of fresh food.

| Labs always act like they are hungry. Then can easily over eat, so maybe veggies for treats. Labs are not picky. My lab will eat any food left out so I can't free feed teddy instead he gets three meals and my lab only two. |

| Beneful could kill your dog there where some reports of it making some dogs really sick and even killing some. Purina is also the company that made the waggin train chicken jerky that killed hundreds of dogs and made others very sick yet they would not pull it for years.
