Flight and ear infections are a horrible combination. Have you ever been on a flight and not been able to clear your ears because of congestion? The pain from the pressure is terrible. It is 10 times worse for a little one that has no idea what is causing the increased pain. I just hate to think what this poor pup has been through. It was taken from the only home it knew and thrown into a crate and carried from one place to another for a couple of days. Eating unfamiliar food is enough to sicken any puppy's digestive system. You have a lot to watch for. It could be this pup has never been properly socialized if it is running all over and not calming down.
I fixed my bed so it was safe for Gracie to sleep in and slept with a night light on for several weeks. I folded up a small blanket and she slept on it right next to my face with my arm around her all night long.I'm a light sleeper anyway after raising 5 kids and untold animals. Since you apparently can't do that you need to try to manage her during the day so she will hopefully be more inclined to sleep at night just like a baby needs to get it's schedule settled. A sick puppy usually wants to sleep. She has been through a lot. I hope she settles down for you. You are off to a very rough start with this one.
Can someone else watch her for you while you try to get some sleep? An x pen with a top on it seems to be the best idea for confining her right now.

I did the pallet when my first dog was a pup, It took a couple nights, then he was fine sleeping near my bed in his crate. Also make the crate a friendly place again. Put some treats in the crate, mine loves boiled chicken so the pup begins to associate crate with good things again. Try a mesh top for your pen so pup can't climb out

Poor little girl. I wonder if all the takeoffs and landings could have caused her ear issues or at least contributed?
What has always worked with me for new puppies is putting a piece of my clothing with my scent on it in their sleeping area for them to lay on. When we were first married we got a s**t zhu puppy and she cried and cried the first night. I had to lay on the floor next to her crate with my hand through the bars in order to get her to quiet down and sleep. I finally decided to leave my robe on the floor with part of it sticking in her crate hoping she would think I was still there and it worked. The next night all I needed to do was put the robe in her crate and she slept like a baby. It's worth a try. I hope it works!

poor little thing she is probably in a lot of pain from her ear infection, I am assuming you have drops, hopefully they gave you very good instructions on how to get it to go deep into the ear, lots of dogs shake their head so hard much of it comes out. Did they do a culture to find out what type of infection it was. Were you given pain medication for her, if not that might not be a bad idea, plus it usually has a sedative effect which may calm her down. I would assume if it was a bad infection that she had it long before getting on the plane, hopefully your breeder reimburses you for it. I bought a pup once and after a few days discovered he had a yeast ear infection. The breeder was well known for yorkies she felt bad she had not noticed it but her teenage son had died suddenly shortly after she had that litter so she was not her normal self, but she did pay for my vet visit and all the meds.

How old is the pup, I don't think you ever said and did the vet agree with the age you were told it was, sorry to ask that, but age can contribute to her behavior now. I am sure besides being still scared and in pain she is missing the other pups at the breeders. This will be a trying time now so I hope the other members in your household are understanding and helpful.

Poor baby! I'm also wondering if the flying had anything to do with her ear. If so, I would get something written from your vet & make United or the so-called "PetSafe" people pay for the vet expenses. They should also reimburse your for the flight!!! It's absolutely horrific what they put your little baby through. I'm so sorry that you're going through this experience. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your puppy will be okay soon. It must have been a traumatic experience for her.

Thanks for the suggestions, Unfortunately sleeping on the floor with her and my head right next to the crate opening did not work. She would thrash herself around in there. I stuck my fingers in the front of it and she scratches at them. I tried treats. I even put her blanket in there i brought her home with. and played with one of her little squeeky ducks and she would run in it and back out but the moment you shut that door she unleshes a rath of fury.
My vet said her ear infection was there prior to her ever being shipped. Yeast and Mites was what was found in the swab. They even showed me what it looked like under the microscope and honestly i've been itching ever since. We have drops, 3 drops each each twice a day for the first 7 days then every other day for the next 7 days.. Shes good and does not shake her head when i put them in and massage the drops in but its a fight getting her to sit still to get them in. She wants nothing to do with patience.

Today is my first day back at work so i created a large play area for her in my front bathroom that has open floors and room to stretch and play. I left yesterday for a few hours and set her up the same way and she did good. She carried on like she does in the crate minus the thrashing but after a few minutes she was fine. She did not bark at me or anything until i acknowledged her when i got back. She even did her business on the 2 peepads i laid down and not on my bath mats which i was shocked. She pooped on one and peed only on the other. I thought that was cute.

What can i do to get her to settle down when I'm ready to for bed?

I would tire her out as much as possible during the afternoon and evening hours. If she still refuses the crate maybe try letting her sleep in your bathroom? If the place is quiet and she thinks no one is around she may settle down and go to sleep. I would pick up things like waste baskets and mats. As she becomes more comfortable with her surroundings she may decide to look for things to get into or chew.

When my little one was a pup I used to put her in our small bathroom with a secure gate at the door when I was away. She was good about using her puppy pads also. She had a snuggley soft bed and a blanket with some toys.

A dog is supposed to have a health check before flying. However, some breeders find ways around actually having that done. If your vet could find stuff in the pup's ears so could any other vet. Did the vet do a fecal exam under the microscope? A pup that has ear mites most likely also has intestinal worms of a variety of different types. If your vet was unable to obtain a good sample you might want to consider taking a specimen in to have checked out before your baby runs into any other issues.

I would not close the crate door yet too traumatic just take your time getting her used to crate again. Keep putting the treats in there. It will probably take her a few weeks to get her used to the crate again. I like the idea of the bathroom, with a blanket for her to sleep on. And definitely tire her out with as much playing as possible. She will get on schedule just be patient and lots praise and treats when she is doing well

with yeast infections there is an odor which the breeder should recogonize and I am sure the puppy was scratching like crazy, chances are the other pups still there have it as well. How many weeks is the puppy, did the vet confirm what you were told

It was MY understanding it is illegal to ship a dog infected with ear mites. I purchased a breeder from a "big, well known show breeder" and that dog arrived with ear mites.....my vet had a walleyed fit! MY VET contacted the breeder, as well as the vet who filled out the health certificate that was required for the dog to be flown via airlines. Totally unacceptable....they sent me all the medication to treat the mites for not only the infected dog, but also for each of my other dogs. I isolate all new dogs coming into my breeding program, so thankfully, there was no chance of cross infection, but I demanded to err on the side of safety.....and this particular medicine is VERY expensive.

There was a health certificate, my vet said in her findings this was well infected prior to her health certificate being signed. That the other vet should have seen it, though the mites she had to see under the scope but the yeast was visable. I did not know it was illegal to ship her with mites. But again i did not know she had mites. I informed the breeder the findings and emailed her the Vet report but have not heard anything back.

I did take a stool sample it is in my fridge i forgot it this morning on my way out. So i will drop it off tomorrow morning. Last night was the first time i seen her scratching her ear. So i gently rubbed it so she was not scratching it with her nails.
