I read through most of this thread but I do not remember you mentioning what airline you have been dealing with. I think everyone would be interested in knowing what company caused this disaster in order to avoid dealing with them at all costs. This poor puppy has been exposed to so many dangerous situations that it is extremely distressing to think of the possibilities. A small breed puppy is so prone to hypoglycemia that your baby could easily have died do to the stress and lack of proper nourishment. That airline owes you and the breeder big time for what they have put you and that little baby through. |

glad the puppy finally made it to it's new owner, but frankly this whole thing would not have to happen if the OP went and picked the dog up, airlines are known for loosing luggage, and if I was them I would stop accepting puppies as cargo especially such young ones. What happened to going to see a puppy before you buy it. Lets hope the puppy is the one that you saw pictures of. The thought of shipping puppies all of the country sickens me and I hope the next person thinking about doing this reads this thread and thinks twice about it. There are also people you can hire as carriers for the puppy, that's what Terri did when she got Galen, when you think about how much these puppies often cost, what's a few hundred more to get them safely delivered, instead of stuck underneath the plane all alone and most likely pretty scared. |

Why haven't we heard anything new from the op about how the little one is doing? Sorry to be a skeptic but some things posted just didn't make sense to me. Hope we didn'get catfished. I really want to know how the little one is doing if this story is true. |
There are some very good breeders that ship their puppies all over the country. A good breeder would never ship a very young pup. There are way too many internet sellers that also ship puppies all over the country and they would ship a very young and possibly ill puppy. I hope the OP was dealing with a good professional breeder and not one of the internet greeders that prey on the public. |
Read through this thread and when I get another yorkie I will fly out and get the puppy myself since there isn't any good breeders very close by |

for some reason this whole concept of buying a puppy and having it shipped as cargo bothers me tremendously. Most of us would not fly and check our adult yorkies like cargo yet people will do it when buying a puppy:confused: There have been half a dozen stories in the national news in the last 6 months of pets getting either loose or lost in transit and that is even when the owners were on the same flight. Please people reading this if you are getting a puppy from a distance away do what Jeane plans on doing and fly out to pick your pup up or pay extra for a human carrier. |
I think I would just take a road trip and make it an adventure :) |
There are compartment areas of the plane that are pressurized and heated and oxygenated, just like for the human passengers .......they are not just tossed up into the belly of the plane with the luggage! There are usually several "live animals" that are traveling on board....Live animals are not delivered to the passengers out on the baggage runway...they are hand carried to the baggage claim desk, and left with the attendant. So, they are not tossed around like cargo...it isnt quite that bad....but they can and do loose pets, although fortunately, I have never had that experience with Delta VIP. Continental did loose a baby that I was having shipped to me...but the baby was not lost in the belly of the plane, or left in some obscure department...he was making the rounds with the crew in the pilots lounge and he missed his flight! I did get him, hand delivered from the cockpit, by the pilot, 4 hours later! |
Has anybody heard anything else from the OP? I have been worrying about this puppy. I hope she updates us on how she is doing. |
Hi all, Its been very long 24 hrs. The vet visit went well, she unfortunately has a terrible ear infection. Last night we tried the crate and it lasted all of 2 hours. I honestly think the traumatic case of her flight has created such a negative memory I cannot go 2+ hours of her crying and screaming. Its horrible. My vet said its to soon to tell if she contacted Kennel cough or parvo, i am keeping my eye on her. Trying to get her to settle down tonight and she will not do it for nothing in the world :( She's a climber and will not stay in her xpen :( I'm not sure how to get her to calm down enough to even sleep with me on the couch. :( I need sleep i cant function on 3 hrs in the last 2 days. |
awww im sorry about the ear infection and your much needed sleep issues....when i got lily she was 2m old, she refused to be quiet in her pen and cried and cried so we gave up and put her on the bed with us which made her much happier. the bed was too high (which freaked me out so much) and she was scared to jump off so she eventually fell asleep with us on the bed because she didnt want to be away from us and now she doesnt ever want to leave the bed. give her a toy of some sort like rope that doesnt make noise and let her chew/play with it and she will fall asleep thats what i learned with both of mine. but dont put her on the bed lol i dont want your baby to get hurt even more. couch is fine though :) |
That terrible ear infection may have a lot to do with the crying and screaming....I am sure it is not helping. You may beed to make a palet on the floor and spend a couple of nights on the floor with the baby....pups up on beds terrify me....p[icture this: You are exhausted and fall soundly to sleep, and baby starts wandering around in the bed and steps off the side and hits the floor, landing on its head....all over but the hole digging. On the floor, at least puppy cant fall off the bed, she can be near you and YOU can get some sleep! |
She just will not stop long enough to sleep. ive begged and pleaded and petted and she wont stop :( I will try the pallet suggestion. I really do not want her sleeping in our bed its crowded enough with my better half and the kiddo sometimes. |
