Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Emergency feeding newborns We have been raising Yorkies for almost 30 years and on occasion we encounter a situation where a newborn puppy is not feeding properly. There are many reasons for this and it can be something as simple as the siblings pushing away the tiniest puppy. Over the years we found that intubation has been the most effective method of emergency feeding but that requires the expertise of a skilled breeder or a veternerian. There are some inherent risks as it involves placing a tube of milk into the stomach. When pulling the tube out, it is possible for some liquid to enter the lungs with fatal results. Recently we experimented with using a sponge system and it has not only saved the puppy but it also allowed for a natural replication off feeding on a mother. We posted a video on our YouTube site and we hope that the many breeders out there may wish to try it when they next encounter a problem. |

| Definitely interesting! I've bottle fed several kittens. Wonder if this would work for kitties too?

| Yes, I imagine it would work exactly the same with kittens.

| I am wondering where we can get those dense sponge/foam blocks.....I will certainly try this with any puppy that is capable and willing to nurse, but for whatever reason, is not nursing enough from momma. Thank you for sharing this method! |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Emergency feeding newborns We purchased the sponges at a local pharmacy in the make-up department. They are dense and latex free. Ours were made in Canada but their are likely some made in the USA as well. |
