| My Yorkie is a veggie Hi everyone, Haven't been on the site for a while, not sure where all the time goes. Anyway, my Yorkie Molly is a rescue. I've had her since last July and I don't know what I would do without her now. My only problem is that she appears to be a veggie. She will only eat rice, tomatoes, cucumber, green beans, carrots (cooked or raw) apples and pear. My vet said that although it is a very strange diet for dog she is has put on weight and is much healthier than when we first adopted her. Has anyone else got a yorkie veggie and what do you feed them? I have tried meat in all forms i.e. dog food, homecooked etc, occasionally she will eat a little chicken and sometimes some fish but on the whole any thing remotely connected with a 'normal dog' diet she walks away and refuses to eat. Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated. |

| Maybe she associates regular dog food with her past life. Hopefully in time it will fade. Have you tried some chicken broth over her food? maybe a little gradually will reintroduce her to meat and eventually she will want the actual chicken too.. |

| Wow, I have never heard of this. Have you thought about talking to a nutritionist?

As for finding a quality kibble that she likes ~ that's another story entirely! The breeder had her on Natural Balance and my vet recommended Royal Canine's special puppy blend that he sold only in his office. When she was old enough to start changing to an adult blend kibble, I tried a few different kinds. First I switched over to the Yorkie Royal Canine, then I went to the Blue Buffalo Grain Free. I finally tried a Pure Vita Grain Free and have stuck with this one for a while now. She prefers the Bison and will actually eat these kibbles alone, if she gets hungry enough. I still add in the veggies at least once a day and this is working well to insure that she gets 100% of the nutrients she needs on a daily basis. | |

| I would have blood work done on her. The last time we had a dog on here that would only eat a vegetarian diet it ended up being in kidney failure with no other symptoms. Dogs are carnivous and want to eat meat

| By the way she went into kidney failure because she ate tainted waggon train chicken jerky treats. Sadly she didnt make it. I dont want to scare you but make you aware. I would get the bloodwork done to rule it out

YT 1000 Club Member | My two Adult Dogs are strictly Carnivores. If I try to give them a Carrot or bit of Green Been, they push it back with their noses, and sit there looking up at me like I was trying to poison them. However, My Pup Ichabod will absolutely eat anything ! I think if I were to sprinkle a little salt on a Nail, he'd gobble it up. They all eat their Dry Food without any hesitation.
