| Teeeeeeeth I have a 7 month old yorkie. He is 3 pounds 6 oz, I have never had a small dog before. I have always had golden retrievers and other breeds of similar size. When I was researching yorkie's I read about " teeth" problems but I thought they meant that I had to brush his teeth, so I started doing that first week I had him to get him used to that. What I wasn't prepared for is that he has 2 of everything in his mouth like a shark! He has lost 1 baby tooth and all the adult teeth don't seem to be pushing the baby ones out!!!! Do I have to get them all pulled, I'm worried about him....... |

Just make sure you continue to brush as you are doing because they do have a tendency to have bad teeth and gum disease. With an extra row of teeth to trap food, brushing is especially important. If at 8 or 9 months, your pup still hasn't lost all his baby teeth, you will need to get them pulled, yes. My Mandie held onto her top canines. She will be getting them pulled next week. I waited until she was a year old so I would feel more comfy with her size and going under the anesthesia.

| They are usually pulled when the dog is spayed or neutered.

| This seems to be an issue with smaller dogs. Mine has some doubles to and the vet pulled them when she got spayed. People generally just get them pulled when they get there pup spayed or neutered. Its awesome you have started with brushing his teeth.

| The problem on my end is that the vet didn't notify me to wait until 8 months old to spay Mandie. I had always spayed my pups at 6 months so I did her, too. At 6 months old, she still had baby teeth, but all but 2 fell out on their own by 8 months. It was too soon to tell, in other words. So, I have to put her under again for teeth pulling. So, yes - as others have said - wait until 8 months or older to spay/neuter so you can do the teeth at the same time

| yes it is a common problem...cedric had 5 babies that stayed in keylo had four the younger though the easier to get out from what my vet said if your not waiting for spay or neuter time. and i agree best to do it when doing neutering that is when cedric had his removed..keylo was already spayed when she arrived so we had to do it seperate.

| I had heard that it's recommended to have baby teeth removed when puppy is spayed/neutered. If that is the case, then when do girl puppies have their first heat? Would having them spayed be before or after their first heat??

| my vet did keylos without actually putting her fully under....i was scared to death having a tube in her throat would kick up her ct and knock on wood it's been few coughing episodes...and i called and asked them if they had to actually put her under...and i was a wreck about it so dr. mac sedated lightly but no intibation tube was needed and he was able to remove the four baby teeth with no issues. i dont know if that can be common practice for vets but i was such a wreck about her going under with the tube.....im so thankful he could do it that way.

| I just did a quick google search and I'm not seeing anything saying that Shih Tzu's have problems retaining. You might want to ask your Vet just to make sure though
