Worried about this hawk!

Well guess who is back!!?? She is rather sneaky.. When I was pulling out of my driveway I looked up and she was on the 5th tree down in my neighbors backyard. ( those tall green fern tress, not sure what they are called) I stopped and rolled my window down to snap a picture and a crow was flying around her- she flew up and then the crow chased her out in the field.

Can't you get the fake Owls..? I heard those are good for squirrels and rodents..

Some of those big birds will swoop at animals that they could not possibly carry away They kill them on the ground and eat what they can right there. I would not take chances even with a tea pot. The huge owls we have around here fly silently and can grab with those huge talons doing a lot of damage. When a young prey bird is hungry it will attack some very strange creatures in an attempt to get a meal.

We have a few crows and black birds around here. Usually when a big hawk comes into the area the crows and other black birds, that are not nearly as big as the hawk, will gang up on it and chase it from tree to tree until it finally leaves for more comfortable lodgings.

Now if I could only find a critter to do that to the bear!

I agree- I have heard of Owls at night, still have not seen one. I do know they are in the trees-

Owls sometimes will hunt for a few hours after the sun comes up so they are still a threat during daylight hours.

Unless you've seen hawks stalking your dog, you have no idea how scary it is. We saw on hawk in our back yard. When I took my pup out to the front of the house on her leash to go potty, I couldn't believe what I saw. There were two hawks circling and making those horrible screeching sounds. We walked around for a little bit and I look up, and there were 4 hawks. I couldn't believe my eyes. It's so sad that I can't even let my dog go out on the balcony to just sit and enjoy the outdoors. It is better to be safe than sorry. Please stay with your pups and keep them on a harness and leash if these predatory birds are around your neighborhood. We don't take any chances!

Aw man that is scary, glad your baby is ok.

Unfortunately I have see a hawk stalk my baby. 3 years ago he was close to becoming a meal. Thank the LORD DH’s Mom was looking at him and was able to run down and scare the hawk.. the hawk was in a full blown dive.. straight down to Pnut. This was at DH’s parents house- they have a huge lot of land- they are lake front. He is not allowed in the backyard with no leash and harness, has never been since that day.

I have 3 (Owls) of them placed through out my yard. My squirrels think they are part of my Yorkie Pack. LOL

Then, you've had that scary fear in your heart! Thank God your MIL was out there when the hawk started to swoop down. People should remain diligent with any type of animal that can attack our little ones. There was a Pitbull off leash in our neighborhood. I don't have anything against the breed, truly I don't. A friend of mine has one. The dog in our neighborhood came running at my dog so fast she jumped over her. Lucky for us this was a very friendly Pitbull. She probably just wanted to play. You just never know what to expect when you take a walk. I think it's time for me to get some Citronella spray to carry again. I would only use it in case of emergency. Even then, I'm not sure it would be effective if there was a very agressive animal. All we can do is do our best to keep our pups safe.

Yes I'm so thankful.. This was so long ago- before I really knew I had to watch for those birds. Now I'm well educated!!

Omg how scary!! Thank goodness she didn't run into her- that would have been a strong hit! Usually big dogs don't know their strength. My SIL has 2 pits- when they are around Pnut I'm right there.. They are really good with him, but sometimes they are a little rough, also Pnut thinks he is the size of them.. So that doesn't help LOL.
