Yorkies Only On/Off?

So we added a yorkie to our house. We've had Airedales for 13 years and have a general idea what to expect from them. The yorkie though.....ok here's the question: it seems like the puppy (10 weeks) is either on full blast running bouncing playing, or off (sleeping). He'll go for an hour, or 2, until we get tired and decide he needs a nap. We'll put him in his crate and he'll pass out, or if its late at night pick him up and he'll go to sleep in our arms. But if he's on the floor he's going full steam.

Is this normal for yorkies? Even Airedale puppies will just pass out in mid play, but not this guy!

Some are just really hyper. I would however not let him just go constantly. Just like a baby he needs someone to say..ok time for a break

Take the batteries out. Keep a daily routine of activities that includes rest periods and your pup will fall into the rhythm. Max was go go go, but he settled into a schedule that included afternoon and evening rest time.

My husband is always telling to take the batteries out of Teddy Bear- LOL He will run around and jump and hop and just go crazy- I found if I take him outside on an leash and we run- (not that fast) he wears out faster and goes to sleep for hours oh wait a mintue that's me that goes to sleep??

I had/have 2 of the most laid back pups in the world. As a matter of fact, for the first 4 months I didn't see them more than 1-2 hours a day because they slept in their little bed snuggled up together so much! My boys go now though, they can go all day and night, but generally they sleep when Im at work and then are up and crazy boys until about 830-9pm then crash on my lap. If I get up or move at all though, they are ready to bounce up in a moments notice to follow me.

I wish some did come with on/off switches, Abbey will play hard and then will rest, her cousin on the otherhand is just go go go. Ruffy just chills, nothing fazes him.

Have not found the on/off for my little girl yet but she does alot better when not around other dogs. Everything and everybody is her play toy!

My foster puppy was very much like this but she is approaching a year and has calmed quite a bit.

Sounds awfully normal to me. Congrats on that Yorkie. You will love this breed. They are a bit full of themselves and tend to sass back and stand up to you, but are also loving little loyal companions and lovebugs all in one. And so portable!!!

Yup, some yorkies need an off switch! I have six 6 yr., 8 month and a 3 month and they are all pretty calm most of the time. The little pups, have their play times but are not hyper! We have yorkie cousins that are super hyper!

Hmm when Peanut was a puppy he seemed to have lots of energy, now that he is 5 he is pretty mellow. He will mostly feed off of my energy- if I am up cleaning or something he is up walking around getting into trouble, if I am laying down- he is right next to me snoozing! I think a long walk will be your best friend!

No on/off switch for mine. She could use a snooze button too
