Breeding yorkies Well I have a female and male yorkie the female is 13 months old and the male is 5 years old. When my chihuahua went into heat she started a chain reaction so all my females (a total of 3) went into estrus Of course they all have there designated partner but, Here is the problem. The male yorkie is the least bit interested in the female yorkie (This is her 2nd heat ) He is more interested in my other two dams but there chihuahuas. My female yorkie is flagging for 4 days now and he hasn't tried anything meanwhile my other males are very interested but not allowed cause I am not interested in mixing them. I ended up taking her to get bred by a different male. Has this happened to anyone? Is it normal will I have to get a new stud? Please help. |
I don't breed, but I'm concerned for you breeding a 13 mth old - that seems too young to me, since she's barely out of puppyhood. Are you okay with that? It sounds like you've got a lot going on with all of your dogs...so I'm a little confused. Are you breeding all of them? Are you letting different breeds breed together? Or, is there a plan you're going for? I guess more importantly, have you bred before? If not, phew, there is a TON to learn...bc it can be a life or death experience for the Dam and the pups. Please be careful in breeding all of these dogs. Don't take this in the wrong spirit, but we should always be mindful that in the US, we kill/euthanize 3-4 million animals per year. In my opinion, that means we should be very *very* mindful and minimal when considering breeding. Btw, WELCOME to YT. I hope you stick around, learn, and get to know us :)! |
Well no I am not breeding to mix them no way would I do that. And this is her second heat she should be fine I've bred for years but this has never happened where the male prefers all other females except his intended mate. |
I just wanted to say welcome to YT and that your little one in your avatar is a sweetie pie. I don't have experience with breeding and I do hope you hang around and browse the libraries and breeding section. I would like to say that even though I'm not well versed in breeding, I have read that it is highly recommended to wait until 18 months to 2 years of age to breed a female. Just for her health. I know they have more than 2 heats by then, but I think for safety's sake, it'd be best to wait til she gets a bit older. Look forward to getting to know you and your girl. What is her name? :) |
Her name is gucci gold and she's not going to end up pregnant anyway cause the male didn't mate with her he wanted other females but her.its wierd this has never happened. She has all her testing done from the vet and was cleared so she is fine to be bred. |
Oh and thank you for the welcome :) |
From what I've read, trust your stud...either your little girl is NOT ready or the person handling the situation is too nervous. Even tho this is her 2nd heat, 13 months is way too young, she's still developing...maybe she went into heat earlier bc you have intact females going on heat, all @ the same/ similar time? Hope other experienced breeders chime in. |
I know she went into heat cause it was all a chain reaction from my more experienced female. She is ready in her heat cycle she has been flagging for 5 days so she's almost done allowing herself. I had to take her to another experienced kennel breeder owner to have a stud dog . I am experienced just I have never came across a male that will not perform on his intended but is willing to perform on others . I am going to have to get a new male if this keeps happening. And my dogs are fine if anything were to come up they are quickly seen by a vet! And a I have had her genetic testing done it is all good and the vet has cleared her for breeding quality.! |

Hi Gina, welcome to YT! i'm wondering 2 things. Is your stud (the one you originally wanted to breed to her) experienced? You said he's 5, but has he bred befor and is he proven? Also, have you checked your bitch for a UTI? Males may be able to scent a problem there which will put him off even if she's in standing heat. |

Is this the little girl that is 3.6 lbs, and the male that is 2.5 lbs? |
Why in the world would you breed a 3lb 13 month old?:thumbdown |

A year old pup is too young...is it not best to wait until two years? |
I sincerely hope you are wrong to Kim 3.6lbs??? :( |
http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...-question.html Perhaps I am wrong, but this same question is posted on another thread. Post #63 and onwards. Gina22100- Please understand that folks here at YT are very passionate about the Yorkie breed, and that some of the breeding choices you are making may be considered controversial by many, myself included. |

Yea actually he's trying to take her now but he excuse the boldness but his part comes completely out and he ejaculates outside of her like he hits and misses. I'm going to find a new stud. |
he is missing the target, he might be too short for her, he needs a boost to reach her. I always assist my males had one that needed a cushion under his hind legs to reach my tallest female. he needs help.. hugs, |
I had a similar situation last week. My Maltese stud was hired to service a friend's Maltese bitch but he wasn't the least bit interested in her. I took him to visit her on day 6 after she started spotting (just to get acquainted). He wanted to play but she hid behind the couch on that first visit. We put them together at least every other day until day 16 when we tried AI. My Maltese was just not interested even though the bitch was flagging and doing all she could to get his attention. At home I had a yorkie that had started spotting the same day as my friend's Maltese. My Maltese acted like he was in love with my yorkie and would not leave her side. I kept them both in diapers because I didn't want them to breed. Could my Maltese stud have been so devoted to his female yorkie friend that he didn't want to be "unfaithful" and mate with another bitch? |

She said on another thread 3.6lbs if it is the same female. |
When more than one girl is in heat, the male will try all of them, the one closest to Estrus will catch all his attention and this could or could not be the one he mates the most with, but , sometimes the male picks one and he looses interest in the other ones. Nature is very unpredictible, as we know, as soon as one of my girls go into heat, she is going to pull the others, so I take my stud and put him in another part of the house, otherwise the hormones make him salivate of eximent and he will chase those girl and try to mount them all the time, making him exausted. I don't allow my male to chase girls either,he gets presented the female I want him to breed with, once that is done over 3 days, that girl is return to the pack but, NOT the male he stays in the guest room or the second floor with another male until the girls are done, then everyone gets a bath and life goes back to normal for another 6 to 8 months. hugs, |

would that make it right, NO, would I personally do it, NO , but the vets are giving permision to do it.. hugs, |
