Does anyone have a perfectly healthy dog? Semi serious question. :-) but don't get mad at me for asking!! When I read posts here it seems that no one has a perfectly healthy dog?? Or is it, like life, we usually only report bad rather than good? When I walk my dog nearly all others I meet have some health issue. Should we have a good news section? |
Our baby is 16 weeks and two days and so far so good. He is going to be a teapot, maybe size has something to do with it? Idk this is our first yorkie :) |

As for serious health issues no. I think I had enough serious health issues with my babies that have gone to Rainbow Bridge. |
I can honestly say the only time I've had a serious health issue with Tuffy, it was my fault! Bella does have some stomach issues. I think you'll always find on a forum about specific breeds that more people will report about their "issues" because we all know this is the place for lots of answers. So, yea, it's sorta like media reports in that sense. |
My 3 yorkies have always been healthy. Buddy is a few health issues but as long as I give him is supplements daily he shows no signs. |
My Moka is perfectly healthy. She's going on 7 years old. I've only taken her to the vet other than a routine checkup or spay for a scratch to her eye she got from playing. She has yet to even need a dental cleaning. |
Healthy dogs :-)) Thank you for answering. The healthy dogs are out there. Yeh! My dog was very healthy until he had cataract surgery and after that there always seems to be some small transient issue with him, poor mite. (Nothing the Vet can find) I believe it was the long course of Prednisone that wrecked his immune system. Keep up the good work healthy dogs for your mommas! :-)) |
Other then an ear infection upset tummies occasionally and kennel cough ((which I believe the majority of these issues I could have prevented better) my two are now pretty healthy! |
Miss Priss has always been very healthy, she is a yorkie, now Yoshi my pekingese has allergies but are treatable if I am careful as to what he is fed. Blessed!!! |
Luma is very healthy, I feel blessed! She had some skin issues in the past, like scratching around her mouth and eyes and creating bloody sores that would get infected, ear infections, biting at herelf, tummy skin was always red...but using a probiotic, coconut oil and putting her on the right food has helped so much. She looks beautiful now and feels so much better! She never itches! Still has minor tear stains, but her immune system is good and strong. She had a checkup recently and everything looked great, even her teeth. Heres hoping our soon to be 2nd pup turns out as beautifully as Luma has :) |
My 3 have had health issues. Cali from a BYB had MVD, allergies and tummy issues. Pixie and Roxie from a good breeder have had some issues as well. Pixie had LP surgery. Roxie has just started with a regurgitation problem that we are trying to get under control. My last yorkie, Gracie from a show breeder died at 6 1/2 from complications of a collapsed trachea. So I have had some bad luck with yorkies but love them to death. After Gracie died I got talked into getting a pom by my husband and daughter. She was healthy until she got old and developed Cushing's. She was from a pet store but had a really bad temperament. So I went back to yorkies. I have to say the healthiest one I had was my first one Karma who was 16 lbs, floppy eared and couldn't grow coat. We fed our dogs back then (1970) Kennel ration and gaines burgers mixed with whatever my Mom was making for dinner. So I haven't had great luck with a completely healthy yorkie. |
Lexie is very healthy. Other than the occasional bout of diarrhea, she's had very few if any issues. She's almost 10 and does have stage 1 LP, but so far it hasn't been a problem at all. |
Most people just report and ask questions and stuff about the about the bad. Also a lot of us got our pups before knowing about this site and about good breeders and got our dogs from bad breeders, puppy mills and such. Mine came from a broker (which I new nothing about) that got there pups from a puppy mill and does have health problems. I am just glad she is mine because she is perfect to me and I know I will help her with her issues and make sure she is taken to the vet and loved even if shes got issues. |
Healthy Yorkie ? Yes, they they are out there. My Noah lived to be 19 and only had health problems the last year. Abba, Ginny Joy and Julia are very healthy. Gracie was a puppy mill puppy and she has had many health issues. Rubin who is ten has been healthy. Rubin does have to have dentals every year or two. Rubin comes from show champion parents and a good breeder. My Vet says the healthiest dog one can own is a, brown short coated, mixed breed of medium size, with short ears ! |
Clyde is not "perfectly" healthy, on account of the fact that he is seizure prone, but my little Dexter is one healthy little pup (almost 8 months old). The only time he ever has even acted sick was when he ate some Blue Buffalo dog food. Blue Buffalo is a great brand, but it didn't settle right with Dexter. I tried to transition him slowly, but his poor little tummy just wasn't having it. So he and Clyde are on Innova and they love it, and no more tummy issues! He did get a slight cough once, but it went away the next day. Aside from those two minor issues I have never had any trouble at all with Dexter, medically. |
