My Pom came from a store that sells only AKC registered dogs (puppy mill) My husband bought her for me 9 years ago after my Yorkie Gracie died at 6 1/2 she was from a breeder but that was not a contributing factor to her death. He did not realize these were puppymill dogs. Well Maya is probably the healthiest dog i've had but she is 12 lbs and not a good personality. She is very aloof and snappy. I know 3 other people who bought from this lady, my brother has 2 shelties from her and 2 friends have had between them 4 chihuahhas (sp) who were all healthy but they were lucky. I totally understand falling in love with these babies.

Sarah, you live and learn, as they say!

It looks as though you were one of the lucky one's though. The special stuff to me when picking out a puppy from a small breeder is like the lifelong relationship and friendship, as well as help when you need it; also, I have pictures of the parents of my previous yorkie as well as this one. Not only that, I was able to see the parents, hold them, as well as see all of the siblings of my puppies. It just makes it extra special to me.
