| The vulva starts to swell and you will see small amounts of blood. She may appear a bit nervous or fussy. You need to make sure she is never outside alone and keep her far from any males that are not neutered. The scent of an female in heat can travel for miles so you may find some unexpected visitors in your yard. Be very careful. |

| Yes, the vulva starts swelling first, then she will drip a little blood for a few days that will turn to pale pink for a couple of days, then she will start going out of heat. If she's pad trained, I would suggest she doesn't go out at all, as her dripping in the yard could bring in unwanted male dogs.

| Dogs can be in heat for 3 weeks to a month so its very important you keep her very far from other male dogs and never outside by herself and doggy underwear do not keep males from mating with her.

| Google "Heat Cycle in Dogs"...it will break down how long each stage lasts and what is going on during each stage. |
