How long ago did your dog hook up with this little girl? If it has been a short amount of time then then they probably are not even implanted yet. You could consider having her spayed. If it is early in the pregnancy then they may not be able to determine how many puppies there are yet. Not by X-ray anyway. You could call the vet's office and speak to them about what they recommend. Write down the date that you found them together. Any dog that has had puppies is going to have larger nipples than a dog that has not. Every pregnancy is different so you cannot determine success by what happened the last time. One puppy that is caught in the birth canal the wrong way can mean the difference between a natural birth and a c-section. Just something to consider that you may have to face. C-sections can be costly and you can lose both puppies and mom if you wait too long. If you are going to go through with the pregnancy she should be put on a good supplement during the time she is pregnant. An ordinary dog food is not sufficient for a pregnant mom. It is hard to tell if she is purebred. She obviously has quite a bit of terrier in her though. I hope for the best for you and you new little dog. |

I understand.. and that is the hard part. If the shih Tuz has and genes that would produce a large puppy it could be bad. Just be prepared. I had my Remy spay after her first heat. I had thought about her having a litter but after reading all that could go wrong and I just don't have the experence that Yorkiemom, carmennj and some of the other wonderful women on here have .. I just rather have my little girl healthy and alive. It is your choice of course.... and I trully wish you well with what ever choice you make. |
