is she a full yorkie? 2 Attachment(s) Hi. I'm new here :). I just got this yorkie, her names is kiki and shes so sweet. I'm just wondering if she looks like full yorkie? I'm like 90% sure she is but her ears don't stand up like ive seen some do is that normal? Even so I love her a lot, oh and shes pregnant! :). Oh and sorry for her messy hair! It looks better in person but she wouldn't let me do it haha. |
Welcome to YT. Lots of good information to be found here. Kiki is cute as can be. Was she a rescue? I'm assuming she was pregnant when you got her? If you are not already established with a vet, I would get her in to see one immediately & get her and babies checked over and start working on your game plan for when she delivers and when you can get her spayed afterward. I suggest visiting the breeder portion of YT. Those members will have invaluable information to help you. Good luck and keep us posted. Oh, and many yorkies have floppy ears... |
Hi, Welcome to Yorkie Talk! Kiki is so cute. She looks "Yorkie" to me. Not all Yorkie's have ears that stand up. I personally think floppy ears are adorable. I'm concerned about your fur baby though. How did she come to be yours? Do you know when she is due? Has she been to the vet yet? Do you know who the daddy is? I'm just worried it may have been a bigger dog, and that she would have trouble delivering her puppies. Do you have experience delivering pups? It's so difficult to take in a pregnant female, and I admire you so much for taking on this dear little girl and giving her a home. Please stay with us. There is so much good information here, and we LOVE puppy pictures. |
We got her from this lady who couldn't have her anymore. She was in heat and her other dog kept trying to mate with her. When we got home with her I was trying to keep my dog and her apart but then my sister left the door open and I didn't even know. I walked in on them stuck together. I promise I'm not a byb! I was told to book an emergency spay but I would never abort the puppies. Nothing I can do now but I do feel bad. Ive been reading all about it though. Her previous owner said shes had a liter before so hopefully that makes this one easier. Shes due march 23. When there born were gonna make sure they go to great homes. She mated with my shih tzu and hes not that big. Any advice? |
Oh and another question, is it normal for her nipples to get bigger while in heat? |
After the first heat the nipples do not lay flat against their stomach and if she's pregnant you will see swelling beneath them. |
Will they be swollen this soon? |
congrat's Congrat's on your new addition, she is a cutie. I would take her to the vets for xray to see how many she may have. not knowing can be trouble during her whelp so you know if she has them all. I'm sure there are breeder's on here with better information then I can give. She is a cutie, Me personally I would spay her after she deliver's. Wishing you luck on a good whelp. Keep us posted as we love to hear about and watch the puppies grow. Will be keeping you in my prayer's. Anne/Luci:p |
Thank you! :) I will definetly keep you posted. |
If she is under 5 pounds you need to go ahead with an emergency spay because having puppies puts her life in danger. You need to go to the breeders section here and some of the breeders can offer you more assistance. Also please get you male neutered ASAP so you don't have any more accidents. |
She is very cute...when I first rescued Foxy she was pregnant and we had to do an emergency spay, her health was more important to me than the trama a pregnancy would due to her. She was in very bad shape, I felt guilty for aborting the puppies, but in the end it was the right decision . I also knew nothing about raising puppies, etc...so it was the best option for us. |
I may have missed it, but what breed of dog did she get pregnant by? (EDIT TO ADD: nevermind..sorry..I saw it was the shih tzu. Why are they recommending an emergency spay? Abort the puppies to save her life is that is what the vet is telling you to do, please) I'm so glad you came to YT and welcome to the forum. Please know that we all love Yorkies very much so anything we say or ask is with the pup's best interest at heart. Also, from the pics, she looks all yorkie to me..with some wavy curls. But can't really tell without a full body shot and knowing stats like her weight and such. How old is she? |
Shes 7-8 pounds. Some guy told me to do the emergency spay, said that if I didn't, to have fun with my poorly bred mutts :/. Shes 5 years old. My male is getting neutered Tuesday. |
Ill get a full body shot on here later. This guy told me.to do the emergency spay, that if I didn't, to have fun with my poorly bred mutts :/. Shes 7-8 pounds. Five years old. Were getting my male neutered soon. |
anyone know how to post a picture in reply? |
I am not so worried about the Mutt issue but, if she is 5 years old and this is her first litter it could be devestating for her. We had a little "mutt" when our kids were younger who we were told had been spayed, well needless to say we were lied to. She was also 5 and it was her first litter. She was half dachshund and something else. It was a very hard delivery and her whole personality changed after. She became a very aggressive biter. It really was sad. Sending prayers for you and your decisions with your new girl. |
Luckily its her second liter. Im pretty sure shes not a mutt but her kids will be. Ive been told multiple times that this pregnancy will go easier cause shes done it before. That's what I'm hoping for! :) |
I really hope so too. I wasn't implying she is a mutt she looks all yorkie to me only saying ours was. :) |
Your baby looks precious!! Sounds like you're getting good advice from more knowledgable people than me. I would just say that any dog that has a litter can have it affect their personalities. I'm not saying it will, but there's a greater chance of having problems later. Our Vet's always suggested to get the girls spayed before they come into their first heat! Just my two cents. She is such a sweetie pie!!:aimeeyork |
@nanahas3 oh no, I know! Sorry if I sounded mean or something. :) I will be getting her spayed after this. I wouldn't want her to go into another pregnancy. That'd probally be horrible for her. Thank you all :) |
To post pics in a reply, hit the "Post Reply" button at the bottom of the thread (instead of the "Post Quick Reply"). You can also hit the "Go Advanced" button next to the "Post Quick Reply". Then, you will see a paperclip icon above the text box and you can upload pics there :) Who is "this guy" that told you that? If he isn't a vet, then don't worry about him. For real. Just make sure you get your little lady to a vet and have the vet ensure everything is ok along the way. "Mutts" are not bad...as a matter of fact, some of the smartest dogs I've had were "mutts." Sure, I would never recommend breeding a mix on purpose, but what's done is done. Just keep her healthy and vet checked...and remember, we are here for support and help. There are many VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE breeders on this forum so if you ever have a problem or question during this, head on down to the Breeders section of the forum and ask away. They will help you so much..and there is a LOT to learn and be ready for in helping a yorkie give birth (I believe it's called whelping..am I right anyone?) I'm trying to learn the terminology of things :) |
1 Attachment(s) thanks! Here's a full body pic. |
Some guy on another forum. Ik Im not worrying bout him. I actually think some mutts are cute! It is called whelping. I'm gonna have to read up on tons of this! :p |

Another question, how do I get my profile pic to show on here? I'm going to start visiting the breeder section, maybe more once shes further along. Right now shes doing fine which is good. That's a good idea lovetodream88. I really wanna make sure these pups go to a good home, ill even interview people if I feel its needed :p. |
To be honest I am a little worried. Shih tuz can have genes that would cause the pups to be too big for a Yorkie. I have a shih tuz that is 26 lbs. his sister was 8 lbs. if the pups run big this could be very bad for your girl..you would have to do c section to save her life. I would have done the spay...that's just me. I wish you the best and pray all goes well |
Oh really? :/ his parents were small, I don't know bout his sisters and brothers though. I really hope all goes well. I appreciate all advice so thanks guys! :) |
