Bad, bad, Bad....... Bad, Bad experience today. I took Lexi to a new groomer today. I saw what looked like a cute little grooming shop not to far from where I live. I called asked a few questions and felt pretty good. It was a woman who said she had been grooming since 1965. After all, she invited me to stay during the groom. I decided to do just that. She started out immediately running the shaver right down Lexi's back. Not really getting to know Lexi or acting like she wanted to make Lexi seem comfortable. She seemed a bit rough and Lexi was getting a bit anxious. I kept watching and then Lexi turned her head quickly and she yelled 'No' at her. And she hit Lexi upside the head. I was thinking to myself, maybe Lexi scared her and that was her reaction. But she kept talking really mean to Lexi. Then she turns to me and says 'She's a spoiled little brat, isn't she?' I said no, she's not. Then she said but she's a momma's girl. I said no not really. She really adores my husband. Well, things got rougher and louder. But after 25 minutes I was thinking ok we are almost finished. Then Lexi moved again and again this woman smacked her on the head shouting 'no' I said 'ok, I don't like this' She said 'you don't? I said 'we're done. Here's your money. (I threw it on her desk.) 'We won't be back and you shouldn't be in the dog grooming business' I grabbed Lexi from the grooming table and we walked out. I cuddled my little one outside of her shop, buckled her in and left. I was just so thankful I was there the whole time. I can't even imagine what could have happened. I think I am going to be looking at grooming her myself. Don't know if I can do it, but I know nobody is going to do that kind of thing to my dog again. Trying to decide what I am going to do so no other animal has to endure this. Right in front of me!!!! I was thinking about the BBB. She doesn't have a website, so I can't leave a bad review. Gotta do something though. Lexi is fine. She got cuddles, a new chewie, collar and got lots of pets, hugs and more cuddles this afternoon. WOW!!! My heart is still beating faster than it should be. |

Is she on Yelp? That is AWFUL!! Good for you for walking out. I don't know if I would have paid though...how awful. Poor Lexi! I hope this doesn't turn her off from other groomers :( |
I sat there reading that with my mouth wide open that is so terrible. I would report her to animal control or the police or some where that is not right and she needs to be reported for animal abuse. |

& I'm really sorry for your treatment at the grooming place. That is more than unacceptable. |
Disgraceful! Wonder how many little dogs she scares to death this way while the unsuspecting owners are at work or sitting home thinking their baby is getting caring grooming? It's stressful enough for those little ones to get groomed, let alone at the complete mercy of a witch like this!!! No wonder some of them come home spent! |
WOW!! Im not sure that I wouldnt of taken the shears to her. Grooming isnt that difficult, but you will need to take it really slow with Lexi, she may not like the sound of the shears anymore. You can do this and then you dont have to wonder what is going with your baby. |
Thanks everyone for the support. Yeah, I wondered why I paid her after I left, but I also wondered why I didn't smack her a good one and yell 'No' at her. The more I think about it the madder I get and I worry about how many little ones she has mistreated over the years. She had some pictures on the wall that lead me to believe she could have been a breeder. Not of yorkies, but like wire haired terriers. I think I was traumatized by the whole thing. Lexi seems to be fine, sleeping comfortably beside me. |

That's so sad. I'd file assault charges against her. |
After the first time she hit my dog. I would have asked her to put down the shaver. Then I would have grabbed my dog and said we are done. Don't you ever hit a dog again. I would say you are not charging me right. if she said yes i would pick up my phone and call the police. Then I would have reported. I would never let any dog be put through that. But that is just me |

OMG I am so sorry this happened. I was have called the police. |
After she hit the dog the first time... I would have told her that's not how I roll. Do NOT hit my dog. If there was a second that would be the end of that and no, I would not pay her. I'd contact the police myself if necessary. |
That's why I groom my own. So sorry For poor Lexie I am sure she was saying what the heck :( |
Wow, that's horrible! I'm glad you left--I always freeze in disbelief when things like that happen, and then replay the scene over and over in my head for days afterwards, wishing I had said something sooner or done something different in the moment. I agree about finding her on Yelp or another internet review site and blasting away. |
oh boy. how horrible very sorry both you and lexi had to experience this. you can find a nice shaver on amazon usually better quality at a resonable price. i groom mine as well to scary handing that power over. just remember if you mess up her hair will always grow back and thats how you learn. hope lexi and you have a much better day today. |
I just moved to Colorado and used a new groomer..she wasn't abusive but did a horrible job on my two girls. If you can't at least report her to the BBB, I would put up a review on: https://www.ripoffreport.com/ At least when someone googles her shop name or her name, your report will show up. Im sooooo angry reading this .......poor lexi that "so called" groomer needs the smack at the side of the head not a lil angel Sammi had his first groom at the groomers 5 weeks back he was really nervous and kept growling and snapping at her hands, she was really good with him took her time and when he got snappy she picked him up and loved him until he had calmed down and start again all in all it took over an hour to finish him. Big big hugs for lexi :hug:and yourself and i hope youu report that woman to the necessary people she should not be allowed any were near dogs at all |
Gawd... I worry so much about my boys when they are at the groomers. IT makes me sad to think that someone else could have the power to break my boys spirit and heart and I'm not there to see. I had a groomer in my old town I loved so much. I kept going for a couple years after I moved, but it was too much to travel so I found a couple groomers here in my new town, but only 1 I really really like and the other is a box store groomer, but not a big box store, just a smaller speciality pet store, so Im really hoping the groomer treats my boys well. Id be sooooo upset if I saw that, and definitely would not have paid the lady. If she said she would call the cops on you, I'd say "Great, because I was going to call them for animal cruelty and abuse on you, 2 birds with 1 stone, I'll just wait right here until they come." |
oh thats so terrible.... to bad you didnt record this behavior on a camera phone... so you can report that heartless b#tch.... and show authorities how she handles her grooming business... i would write a letter or email to the BBB.. and let them know whats going on.. or report her to your local authorities or SPCA.... omg i wish that i was there cause i think i that she needed a smack or two upside her head... i wouldnt have given her one dime.... but thank god your baby is ok... thats what counts at the end of the day... ;) |
:( That's just awful! Reporting her to the BBB is a good idea. |
I have a very good groomer. It took me a while to find the right one. Bad experiences with groomers seem to abound. All the more reason to stay with your pet like the OP did. Gracie has a long coat so it is not difficult to trim her myself. I do take her monthly to get her nails trimmed. She does go to the groomer about every 3 or 4 months to get her all evened out and looking sharp. People with puppies need to groom from day one even if they intend to use a groomer. You don't want your puppy to be held down by a groomer because it is not used to being combed and bathed. A dog will fight a groomer if they are afraid and that is how major injuries happen. |
Poor little Lexi and you! I want to slap that groomer! This makes me so sad to read. I'm sure you are traumatized too. Give Lexi an extra hug from me and the boys. |
I am so glad that Lexi was not traumatized by that groomer. I can't believe she had the nerve to hit her TWICE !!! in front of you. I shudder to think how dogs whose owners are not there are treated. I would definitely report her. |
Poor Lexi :( Groomers scare me. The best one we ever had has quit the business. |
I would have grabbed my Yorkie and gotten out of there and called the better business bureau and filed a complaint. No one should ever hit your dog! The dog will become very skiddish. These groomers out there can be very mean thats why I say watch out who you go to. Always get a good recommendation before going or have someone you know groom your dog. You take a chance dropping them off at a petshop. Those groomers hit em with a hairbrush and are mean and you will never know. Your dog will be tramatized. PLEASE choose a groomer carefully! |
Well thanks again for your support. It breaks my heart to think of Lexi's spirit being damaged by someone with an anger/control/bullying issue. That is the part that really bothers me. Lexi loves everybody and every dog. Her little tail just wags at everybody. Happy, happy girl. Hopefully, she will not remember it. She knew I was there and would protect her I hope. I wonder what this witch does to dogs that are not being watched by their owners? I am going to contact the better business bureau, but I don't think groomers are very well regulated in my oregon. I am also telling everyone I know what my experience was with her, and I will continue to do so for as long as I can. I know people who could possibly use her because of her location. I also know a guy right around the corner from her who owns a business and have him spread the word. I sort of feel like I want to call her up and find out what the heck was she thinking hitting a dog just to see what she would say to me. What did she think that was going to do? But then I think, heck I'm not going back there and will do everything I can to make sure nobody I knows goes there either. BBB for sure though! |
Oh my...im speechless! Thank god you were there to see what happened!! If I were you I would also put a report on ripoffreport.com. then any one who g oo gled or searched her name or her business name would see what happened. My blood pressure is just soaring thinking about what lexi and yourself went through...makes me so grateful for my groomer!! |
I'm so sorry this happened to you two! The last time I took Crimson to the groomer... they told me my dog was a spoiled brat. :/ No one is allowed to say that but me!! I've been trimming her face and toenails since. My husband has been asking me when she was going back and I keep putting it off. (I agreed if we got a yorkie that I would keep the hair short. We always do that if we want something right? LOL! I was hoping he would change his mind but he just loves poodles with the bear look.) |
