Yorkie Yakker | First hair cut? Hi...new mom here I am just wondering when it is suggested we get the first hair cut. We are not planning to have a show dog, just a well kempt companion. Our Maya is 14 weeks old and I love the length of the golden hair on her face. Her back is black still, and fairly wavy - it is becoming full, and she looks just like a plump little black bear trotting around! I want her to look well groomed, but we live in Manitoba and it is about 2F right now - that is temperate, she learned to go outside to pee when it was nearly -20!! Maya loves to go outside and snuffle around in the snowy ravine where we live - I am sure her longer coat keeps her warmer. Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks! | Im in Florida, so I have no advice on the hair for temps...but if you use a jacket or sweater then she should be fine with shorter hair. The first time I took Joey to the groomer was about 4 months, and then I took him to get shaved around 6 months..middle of summer down here I felt bad for him.

| You need to make sure your baby has had her all of her puppy shots for at least two weeks before going to the groomer the first time. Even with long hair yorkies don't have under coats so they still need a jacket when going outside when its cold sometimes they even need a shirt on inside depending on the temp you keep your house.

Yorkie Yakker | Great tips, thanks! I tend to worry more about her little feet on the ice and snow than her body temps - hoping that she will have enough sense to come back inside with me if she feels cold! She only indulges in the longer 'snuffles' when it isn't as bitter ...and she doesn't seem to mind having cold feet - we keep up a pretty brisk pace though. I have examined her feet to be sure she isn't having any lasting effects. She seems to LOVE being outside, often bounding through snow up to her chest!! |

| Bammabits- Welcome to YT!! I live just an hour south of grand forks n.d. so can totally relate to the winter temps!! I got my babies' haircuts soon after ruby had all of her shots. My two love the snow. Since I just had them groomed right before Christmas I use sweaters and coats for potty breaks.

Yorkie Yakker | Thanks, Ruby! Maya so loves to romp in the snow; she's a mini snow beast Her wavy black coat is getting longer and is quite thick, making her look like a little bear cub frolicking in the snow - no time for sweaters at potty break, yet. we are lucky to get out the door on time - lol!! I absolutely love her to pieces |
