| Joel is scared I was wondering what I should do since Joel is still scared from the fireworks. It's not all the time, only if he sees or hears something that sounds like fireworks he starts shaking and crying. When he's outside and sees the neighbors christmas lights he keeps staring at it and cries to get in the house, he thinks it's fireworks. He also will just stare up in the sky thinking there going to come. Other than that he's normal, he still asks to go potty, even though this morning he pood in the house for the first time in a long time, not sure of it's from him being scared. I hope he won't always be like this because he used to never be scared of stuff My question is should I totaly ignore when I see him thinking about it or is there something I could be doing to get him over it? | I would try to do something he loves to do and take his mind off of it. When I first got Wallee he was terrified of the vacuum and barked his head off. I didn't want that to become the weekly behavior so next time I vacuumed I had my DH play with his favorite toy on the floor right beside the vacuum. That's all it took. From then on I was able to vacuum without a peep out of him. In fact he sometimes still brings me a toy when I am cleaning and I will throw it a few times for him being so good. |

| I wouldn't give him time to think about being scared. When you take him out let him go potty and then either play with him or take him back in. Keep his mind busy and talk to him in an upbeat reassuring voice. If you let him think you are pitying him it will cause him to think he is correct to be afraid. Just keep building up his confidence. Do things he likes to do outside. |
