♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | Tinkle Problems Question: All three of my dogs all seem to understand the concept of waiting to go outside to potty. However, we recently purchased new furniture and for some strange reason at least two of the dogs (females) still not sure about the male, have taken up occassional peeing on this furniture. Although it is rare, we are concerned that if the problem is not checked in due time, our new furniture will become our old furniture. This problem happens even though they have regular access to the outdoors and still remind us when they wish to go out. These secret pees are happening without any apparent explanation. Please any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention.

| Sometimes parts of furniture or carpeting can have a component that has an odor that incites the dog to pee. Sometimes it is a chemical used on some part of the item and sometimes it is because of where parts of the item was once stored. Maybe you could try getting an upholstery cleaner or steam cleaner that has an upholstery attachment to clean the furniture and hopefully remove what ever the scent is that is attracting them. Then spray it with a fabric deodorizer. |

| I agree about the smell associated with certain fabrics. Have always found rubber backed throw rugs to be something that will draw pets to pee on. I think I would also give the furniture a good spraying with freeze or something similar after you have it cleaned up with a good enzyme cleaner. Luckily for me, Wallee thinks he is unable to jump up on he furniture by himself....teehee. he will come over and ask to be lifted up only if we are sitting there. The only time he has ever jumped up on my knee is that time I was in the back yard at your house....lol....silly guy.... |

| I agree, also maybe block their access to avoid this becoming a habit, and/or keep the furniture covered till the problem is rectified...

| Oh yeah! I had to give up on having the rubber backed throw rugs except in the bathroom. The cat kept peeing on the one in the kitchen. I keep the one in the bathroom on the side of the tub when not in use. I guess this is why those liquid housebreaking aids are supposed to help. Certain scents attract them to pee! |

| I agree it may be a smell. Some furniture is treated with a flame retardant that seems to beckon doggies. Plastic bags and rubber backed rugs seem to also say PEE Here. My advice is to block the dogs from that room when you are not with them if you can.
