Yes do microchip. Some companies do charge a yearly fee, most don't.

Jack is chipped, Josie is not. Jack come with chip when I purchased him. I paid the one time fee to activate it.

One day while at vet a guy brings dog in said he found on side of road. Girl scans him and he had been missing for about 3 months. He was about 25 miles away from home. Owner told girl who called his grand kids just said a prayer the day before the dog would be found.
How awesome those kids got their prayers answered.

Definitely! I'd prefer to get it done while already under for spay/neuter!

My city requires it. They came knocking on the door checking on license, microchip, neuter/spay, etc. I'm a "rule follower" so I did it. If my Copper ever got lost I would be praying someone checks the chip and I would get him back. I say microchip!

I just love the happy ending stories! I have been seeing more and more stories on the news lately. Just the other day I saw what looked like maybe a Shih Tzu being returned to her owners after 5 years. The little dog had gotten out the front door. Someone in a car was seen picking up the dog and it was not seen again until it was found in a shelter on the list to be put down. Someone scanned the little dog and found the chip! The owners were so happy to have the dog back!
