| What to do? We are going to my in laws for a Christmas visit. We have to stay the night in a hotel and we booked one that takes pets. We were planning on taking Marley with us to the hotel and then to his parents house where his extended family is meeting from out of state. The problem is that his parents have a bad flea infestation. Marley takes a heartworm pill that both kills & sterilizes the flea but I don't want to subject him to bites if I don't have too. Hubby said he will be fine and by the time we get home (4 hour drive) all the fleas that are on him will be dead and we just wash his car seat and blanket. I don't want to leave him with a sitter. He only had fleas one other time and it was when we went to visit with his parents last year this time before we knew they had fleas. He did not have any severe reactions to the bites. What would you do? PS the sitter is a smoker (we aren't) and has 5 other dogs...but she is very very sweet to her dogs. |

| Would the sitter be smoking in the house with the dogs? How many days is the visit?

| Well if it is trifexis one thing to consider is the fleas will still bite and could past on a diease. Guinness used to take trifexis till we switched vets and he explained he does not prescribe it due to the dog will still get dog bites and because it is a chemical that stays in your dogs system including of course liver and since Yorkie are already known for liver issues it was best for us to stop using it.

| A while ago sometimes in 2012 dogfancy had an article about dogs starting to get lung cancer from second hand smoke so I very much would not go with that sitter if you decided to go with a sitter. Is there a doggy daycare around your in laws? I would think getting bit by fleas would suck because I am guessing they have to bite him for the meds to kill the flea.

Oh and I was not trying to be nasty, I just worry about anything that could damage an organ the breed is already known to have issues with and want to make sure other Yorkie parents are aware is all

| I wouldn't want to take ME to a house with a flea infestation....just saying.... If the dog doesn't mind the sitter that would probably be safest. Just don't bring the fleas home with you. I have zero flea experience, so don't be offended, but the idea of them makes me itch. |

| We are trying advantage 2 after he told us that and I started researching trifexis and liver issues.

| Ewww, I kind of agree, I don't think *I* would be going into a house with a flea infestation, LOL. If it were me, I'd skip it, and go some place that I can bring my dog too, haha, but that's just me. I don't like small little almost microscopic things that jump a lot and you can't catch 'em. Fleas gross me out! Can they not do a flea bomb thing before the holidays? It just seems weird, I wouldn't invite people over if I had a flea infestation in my house.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I have a question. Does the parents know about the flea infestation ? It is not good for people to to get bite. Some people even have a allergic reaction to it. Big bumps from the fleas. Like some said above. If you go and your pup doesn't, you will still get fleas and bring them home. It gets in your clothes , hair all over your body. I don't want to gross you out but that is what happens. Then you will have to bomb your house. And let me tell you it is not fun. I live in an apartment. My storage had an opening and a feral cat got in. She infested the storage unit. I didn't know. I went up to my apartment aback and forth. Then I just came out and was taking to the matainance guy. He was like something is on your back. Then he was like omg you have a bunch of fleas on you. Long story short. They bombed my storage unit and my apartment. I had 3 cats and had to put them in my car for 9 hrs until I can go back in. Then wipe everything down and bring them back in. Someone should tell them. If they know but don't want to do anything. Either offer to get an exterminator in or don't go. I would not want to risk me, my pup, my car and my home. Sometimes honesty is the best policy

| Personally, I would not take them. Does your Vet board? My Vet has boarding for $13/day. I don't leave them there often because I prefer people to kennels but if my choices were A: FLEAS B: Second Hand Smoke exposure (since you brought this up it must bother you) C: a Kennel that would cost me no more than $30 and no flea bites, exterminator or smokey baby D: Not going or meeting somewhere that there are no fleas I would choose C or D....
