What is the meaning behind your dogs name? I know there was recently a thread posted asking if your dog was named after a famous person ... but I'm curious to know the MEANING behind your dogs name and WHY you named your dog that =) Clyde's name meaning is after a river in Scotland. There is a "slang" meaning behind the name Clyde .... but I don't like it (bumpkin or square). Clyde is named Clyde because of my favorite actor, Gerard Butler. I wanted to name him Gerard ... but it didn't fit. I was going to name him Butler but everyone refused to call him that. So I watched all of Gerard Butler's movies (because I owned them all HAHA) and picked my favorite one. Law Abiding Citizen. Gerard Butler plays the character named Clyde Sheldon. I absolutely loved the movie & the name. Dexter's name means something about "right-handed and fortunate"....Dexter is named after Michael C. Hall ... and my all time favorite television series "Dexter". I absolutely LOVE the actor & the show ... so I went with Dexter. It fits him perfectly. I have a thing for naming my pets after favorite actors/movies. ' So... What does your pets name mean and where did it come from? |
We picked out the name for our future child. Since we are not ready for children yet. We decided to give it to our furbaby. |
Well Guinness Stout is because we are both part Irish and well he loves to drink Guinness... And I just asked him why Stella and his answer was "it was the only girl sounding beer I could think of" hmm looks like we might have a name change in store because I was not that wild about that name :p |
Colby Jack after our favorite cheese! =D |
Blazer was named by DD1 right after he was delivered. Blazer's mother is my neighbors' dog and when mom was ready to deliver the owner was at work and so I delivered the pups. Blazer was 1st, then a girl already sold named Ema, then 4 more boys. After all were out we- my 3 daughters, me, and the owner's 2 daughters- all decided to come up with names. We asked DD1 what she would name a pup and she said Blazer, I started calling the first born pup Blazer after that. Then, a few days later the owner told me that I could have a pup for free for all that I did so Blazer stayed Blazer and that's the end of that. =D |
Liberty was named by my college-student son who was an intern at the institute of his hero, a recent presidential candidate (will remain nameless for sake of friendliness. LOL) because he wanted to influence his dear ole' mom. Didn't work. LOL. Naming a puppy is a good way to build a bridge in friendly family debates. Regardless of political persuasion, "liberty" is a good thing, no? Libert fuzz-butt is MY hero |

Teasell got her name from my love of Actor Vin Deasell she is a girl so had to feminize it a bit and then had to give tribute to a special little Dachsie that I had for over 14 years ( Tizzara) Still miss her to this day. So my little Yorkie is Teasell....:) |
Mina (strong willed warrior) she is the youngest of the 5 dogs and needs to be strong willed. |
My sheltie-mix is named Shelby-Dale. We can't have kids and he was my first ever male dog so I named him Shelby after my dad. He's black and white (mostly black) and my hubby was a HUGE fan of Dale Earnhardt (he drove a black car). So..Shelby-Dale. Mandie really doesn't have any meaning (although friends tease me about the Barry Mannilow song lol). Her name was Sophie when we got her but hubby thought that was too ritzy for us regular folk...we bounced names around for about 4 or 5 days. He called me at work one day and said, "Candie or Mandie?" I tested calling each name like I was calling a dog...I liked Mandie better. (pretty meaningless but a pretty name I think :) ) |
Joey was named jojo by the breeder and because of our last name (also starting with Jo) I decided we need to change his name. I like Joey, and it stuck! |
Cerise = Cherry Her name means "cherry" in French. I also love the color deep pink or red of the juice of a cherry. |
We have a "theme"... We first adopted Odysseus ("Ody") and he was named after my favorite hero from my favorite book. When Athena came along, there wasn't a "theme" set yet but I would have liked to have kept it in the ancient realm. So I came home one day (I told Chad he could name her) he chose "Athena" because it was his favorite character in "Battlestar Galactica" and so by the time Zeus came around, we had to keep it Greek. :) It was either Zeus or Titan but he acted like he was in charge. So Zeus it was! |

Kyra's name pronounced (KEER ah) means Lady which she truly is. Laddy is spelled wrong but is meant to be the same as Laddie which is a Scottish name for young man. |

I love your boys names. I like Gerard Butler AND the Dexter show, I was JUST watching the show tonight, season 6:) I started late because I was waiting for it to go on Netflix but I couldn't wait that long so then I bought it on itunes lol I'm so excited to watch it now. |
Jackson was named after the Johnny Cash song 'Jackson'. When the Walk the Line movie came out, my family went thru a bit of a Johnny Cash phase. I think we had bought the soundtrack or something and we were always joking around singing 'jackson'. Anyway, when I decided to get a pup, and was coming up with names ... my mom suggested it and I immediately went 'I love it!' and it just stuck. I kept looking at the photo I had of him before I met him and I just knew he was a Jackson. I also am a fan of Michael Jackson so it fit. It's become a bit more popular than I thought it would be, lol... I like more unique names and at the time, had never met anyone named Jackson. Now there's two of them in my little sisters daycare class! I've only met one other dog in person though with the name. |
Well, Max came with his name, as we got him when he was a 1 1/2 years. Teeka Kiara is named after our baby, Tameka, who passed in August. Kiara is the name the breeder had for her, which is the name of her daughter. :aimeeyork:yorkieboy: |

Chibi means small in japanese. I was on a japanese naming streak when I got him, I had guinea pigs named Yumi (Beautiful) and Katai (tough). I always enjoyed japanese culture and would love to visit some day. We were between Chibi and Yoshi- lol. Chibi is just so cute sounding, and original, it fits him perfect. Molli was nameless for about 3 days which I felt horrible about but we just couldnt think of anything that fit her right. She is a little mischevious girl and we when thought of Molli it just fit, I wanted to spell it with and "i" to be a little original because I know a lot of dogs named Molly. I try and be original but sometimes you just got to use what fits. Her middle name is "ice cream cone pajama pants" lol :) |
JJ had his name when we got him at the spca but we kept it because it was perfect for us, my name is judi and my husbands is jeff so we kept it as jj. when we got jewell my husbands mother had just passed away 3 monts before and he said we could NOT name an animal after her but when i brought her home from the shelter he asked what the people called her there and i told him "you won't like it" they called her a little jewell. and he said " Jewell i told you we can't name her Jewell" and she went right over to him and rolled on her back for a belly rub. so she kept it, and his sister thinks she is just like their mom and that she'd approve too.:D |
I guess Chizziewink has the most interesting name meaning. The name Chizziewink came from a children's book, The Chizzywink and the Alamagoslum. Chizzywink is a slang term for mosquito used in Florida. I named her that because when she came home from the breeder she was a notorious ankle biter! I loved that stage, and hated when she grew out of it :( but alas, they all grow up. Chizzie now lives with my son and daughter-in-law. I usually skip the in-law part 'cause I love her like a daughter, but didn't want you to get the wrong idea . |

We are NBA people so Barkley was named for "Sir" Charles Barkley. Sadly, we lost Barkley last week and I felt the need to finally register and connect with Yorkie folk. You make me feel better reading about Yorkie antics. :animal-pa |
