Ugh! I just got the most disturbing email ! This just baffles me and is so upsetting. I had someone email me...."looking for a tiny teacup yorkie baby thats only a couple weeks old" For his girlfriend for Christmas. He said its what she wants to she can bond to it. I am educating the best I can...but I certainly pray they don't find someone that would actually do that. Ugh...just breaks my heart. A poor puppy can die in the hands of the uneducated :( Puppies should never leave until 12 weeks I feel, and I still have a hard time parting with them then most times! |
Oh goodness! I pray that your education gets through to him!!!!! |
:< I really hope that they don't find someone who would actually be willing to do that! |
Just educate him all you can. My hubby used to want me to get dogs when they were young (not a couple of weeks old but young) for the very reason this person gave...bonding. It took me a while to get through to him how the older they were, the better adjusted they would be and bond BETTER to him. People just don't know until somebody tells them. I sure hope you get through to him. |
People don't understand or get it. They see a dog, they want a dog. That is all they know. Very few people educate themselves about a specific breed and their needs until AFTER they get the dog. Plus, the holidays is the worst time to get a dog as a gidt for another person. Me personally, I would not want a dog as a gift, even if it WAS a Yorkie. Unless I was there to pick it out. The only exception I could say would be purchasing a dog for a child. In that case, your really the one responsible for the dog anyway. |

Oh man, I am so glad that you educated him |
Breny, Zues is absolutely beautiful puppy:p Anne/Luci |
Breny no pup of any size should go to a home at a COUPLE of weeks old. So sad there are still so many folks that don't understand that! I too have had odd requests, and quite frankly insulting questions over the phone for my breed. |
Oh my goodness! I hope and pray that your education gets through to him!!!!! I sure hope that he doesn't find someone who would sale a baby at that young age. |
That is the one single thing that bothers me about my little girl is I get her at 8 weeks old. |

WELL at least you have the experience AND Guinness :) Edit: On second thought, could you not just pick her out and then have her stay longer? |

Is there any way that they can withhold her paperwork and allow you to spay her later?. There are risks of urinary incontinence and so many other health risks for spaying one so young. I don't want to do anything to lessen your excitement, and I'm sorry, but I just want you to be really happy and to have a healthy little girl. This response is to Alisha about her little girl Stella. |

OMG! How can anyone think that is okay!?!?! |
The internet is full of puppy mill and broker sites that sell puppies at a young age. But their hitch is to try to make buyers think they are getting a tiny by letting them go early. It's pathetic what they will do for money. I hope even they would not let a puppy go at a couple of weeks though. What do these people think they are buying? A wild animal that they need to tame? It seems many people do not appreciate being told they may be wrong about these things. |

That's so very sad they are the reason people are still getting away with selling pups under 12 weeks. I hope you where able to get through to him. |

I'm so sick of reading the posts beating up on people that buy their weaned puppies at a younger age. |
Until I joined YT I had NEVER heard of the "12 week rule." Though I completely understand the reasoning behind it, I think that because 8 weeks is the "norm" for most pups there is no reason to bully someone about getting their pup at 8 weeks. Now, if the breeders were selling the pups younger than that, then by all means, educate LOUDLY. But 8 weeks? Move on... |
