| How much to feed 12 week old puppy? Kiki is 12 weeks old now (we've had her for a month now). She is no longer having digestive issues since she got switched from Iams (breeder) to our Acana puppy food. The bag doesn't say how much to feed her and the store said to feed her as much as she is needed. So, how much? LoL. I give her a1/4 cup per serving but that seems like a lot. :S I have big dogs so a little dog is perplexing lol. She also gobbles her food down in about 10 seconds so I'm hoping she slows down with age. Thanks. |

Puppy Small Breed | Acana UNFORTUNATELY THEY DO NOT GIVE AN EXACT FEEDING AMOUNT BECAUSE ALL PUP ARE DIFFERENT.. I ASSUME YOU ARE FEEDING HER 2 OR 3 TIMES PER DAY SO I WOULD THINK 1/4 PER MEAL IS PLENTY. AS LONG AS SHE HAS NICE FIRM POOPS AND SEEMS HAPPY AND HEALTHY I WOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT IT.. YOUNG PUPS USE A LOT OF ENERGY SO SHE WILL NEED THAT EXTRA FOOD ANYWAY.. IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HER WOLFING DOWN HER FOOD YOU COULD TRY HANDFEEDING HER A FEW KIBBLE AT A TIME. AT LEAST THAT WILL SLOW HER DOWN A BIT. .....

| Honestly, at 12 weeks... I would just keep food out all the time to make sure she eats enough. All of my dogs have come home at 5 or 6 months old and I fed them 3 times a day, but at 3 months... I think puppies should have food available at all times.

I encourage all my new owners to free feed. These babies, I believe, need all the food they want to consume, in order to keep up the energy levels they have as babies. They need the calories to fuel all the metabolism that is going on throughout every cell in their bodies and brains. I tell my owners, if they want to change the baby to eating regulated, measured meals, wait until they are 8-9 months old. Calories are the necessary fuel needed to ensure the very best development of these babies! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 11-23-2012 at 09:09 PM.
