Years ago my parents left their little Sheltie with me and my husband while they went on vacation. While I was at work the husband carelessly let the dog out and he ran off. It was a horrible experience. We lived 12 miles from where my parents lived. We searched daily for that dog. Driving all over, calling for him, putting signs up and ads with a sizable reward in the paper. Finally someone told us to put clothing out so if he was near by he would get the scent and follow it. I went to my parents house and picked up all kinds of things that would have their scent on it. Early the next morning I heard a bark outside. I jumped up and ran out and there he was! He had been gone for a week! I can't honestly say I know for sure the clothing worked but the timing sure was right. I had placed the clothing in circles beyond our property line for quite a distance and right up to the door. It is something to keep in mind if your dog ever gets out though.

Wow! What a story and great ending. I'll bet you were miserable that whole time he was missing! I'm going with the clothing thing, too, if, the Lord forbid, Tibbe should ever go missing.

I think the awful story of Bengi getting lost the way he did was a big eye-opener for everybody and sure makes you rethink EVERYTHING. Thank God Ellie81 posted it and possibly prevented any number of dogs being lost because of her threads. And, of course, thank God that little boy is home tonight. When traveling, we're gone sight-seeing the most of the day so any dog we take along has got to stay alone a good deal or not go vs. the worries of him getting lost by the person or facility who is keeping him. A key-locked kennel would be the best, I guess. Not much fun for the poor dog but probably more fun than him running lose for weeks. Hopefully, he'll sleep during the day. Then, donate the kennel to someone upon leaving - I'm not toting that thing on any plane.

I'm already a Pet Rescuer with HA. I was just asking what the app was as I didn't see a name, thinking the one talked about was a broadbased one, not just for HA lost pets. I sure wish we had a centralized app or registry where all the chip company's would send their lost pet info and photo's and people could go sign up to receive alerts.

Yorkies are very precious dogs and people that steal them know that they can get money for them. Do not leave your dog in the car alone. Someone can break a window and steal your dog. We Yorkie lovers must be very careful when taking a dog out of the home. Just leaving them at the groomers can be trouble. I have my groomer come to my home. I will not take my Yorkies out in a strange place and leave them alone. As far as leaving them alone in a hotel, I would rather hire someone to come stay at my house with them. My friend has cats and they are at a hotel and someone is always there with the cats. They will not leave them alone. Just have to take precautions so nothing happens to our precious Yorkies!

We travel in an RV and dont stay in hotel/motel if the furbaby is with us. She wears a HomeAgain tag (my vet also keeps her number and infor for homeagain on file),tag with the vets number,tag with my and DH numbers on it. We either dont leave her in the RV and take her where we are going or we dont leave the RV/campsite. The other option is for her to stay home with one of my adult children to house sit.

Yea it's the Pet Rescuer app for IPhones that I have so anytime one is reported missing it just pops up on my screen.

However, I would not advise to sneak a dog into a hotel that is not pet friendly. Bc if something were to happen, the hotel isn't going to do anything, and possibly charge you even more for breaking the rules.

I tried attaching the PDF poster for a recent lost/found Mojo but it was PDF and almost 2 MB's so I couldn't because of file type and size. But besides the notice they send you with the details of the lost dog that the owner has provided, you can download a full color LOST DOG poster with the photo of the dog on it - if the photo is on Home Again.
