Uni is signed up w Avid. We faxed in the form almost one year ago. I looked up her number on this site, and nothing comes up. How about you guys?

We have Home Again and nothing. Haven't checked Ody's number yet though. It came up as possibly being Avid :/

Ok wtf is wrong with me and linking recently? I did it from the ipad, maybe that's why? :confused: But yea that was the site I was trying to link. It shows the chip as Avid but not registered. What is up with this site then? I can't find any other site online.

I couldn't display that website either but Tibbe's came up Home Again, last updated 11-10-12 on the one you used, Nancy.

I think Gracie's is through PetLink. We put her info on the website ourselves. You can use a variety of phone numbers, people and addresses.

I'm confused about Joels microchip, he has HomeAgain. What is the differenc with puting your info on it and registering it on the site?
Also while where on this topic, what if i want to get him the tracking microchip(the only one I realy feel safe with), can he have that one too or can he not since he already has one?

Have you looked it up on that link Nancy had to see if other lookup services recognize it? I just added some particulars that specifically I.D. Tibbe on Home Again today besides the other things and his picture already there and this lookup site recognized that. GTK. They really should allow more pictures on Home Again site.

Katie has an international chip that was put in by her Canadian breeder. It has a fifteen digit number, and it showed up. My vet scanned her and gave me her number, and he told me it wasn't necessary to put in a US chip. It still scares me, though. I found this article written for vets interesting.

Katie's chip is endorsed by the Canadian Kennel Club, and it's a EIDAP chip.

When I put Gracie's PetLink microchip number on the look up site it brought up the company contact number. That is what I wanted so that the company can contact me and my personal info is not available to the public.

Scary, isn't it. I'd read all the downsides of what can go wrong and why chips aren't the end all and be all when Tibbe was chipped and still want the extra chance. Ellie81's situation with Bengi and some of the potential Bengi's has made me so aware of being able to I.D. the dog in the shelter as your dog so I've undertaken to do that by photo-inventorying his body parts up close and doing a physical description of Tibbe's body peculiarities, teeth as well as markings, tail set, his vestigial dew claw to match the pictures and his tricks that he knows to do to only my name for them. He'll do a "shy boy wave" and "Roll Back Stay" and "Get In the Pink Cadillac"(means crate up) so if I show up, describe what the tricks are and ask him and he does those things, that should help, too. If I have to get him an international chip and it is safe to do it, I'll do that too. He has his rabies tag, a regular ID tag and Home Again is sending him one of their yellow Home Again I.D. tags.

Yes, the whole thing is scary. When my vet first tried scanning Katie, nothing showed up. He ran the scanner all over her body. I showed him what I felt seemed to be a microchip, and he confirmed that it was. At that point I was going to have another one put in. A vet tech scanned Katie soon after that, and she got it to scan three different times. My vet told me that it was a good international chip and that it was better not to have two chips. Her breeder also told me that I did not need to have another microchip put in. I will definitely be having Katie scanned again. I know the vet tech was able to scan her because she gave me her number.

I'm glad Katie did scan okay!!! I worry about chip failure. Tibbe is 5 and had his since he was 11 mos. old. I wish there were more we could do that was a for sure system. Wouldn't it be great if there had to be a merging of all chip systems into one! And all scanners HAD to be able to read all the active chips? Will never happen but wish wish wish.

So the site does work. that was my question. So either that site doesn't work with Avid, or Avid never updated Uni's info? Did anyone with Avid get it to show anything other than the chip MAY be an Avid?

It looks like you are posting an extra "http" that you don't need.

Anyway, my chip is with Home Again not Avid, it did list both the Home Again phone number and the AKC phone number. I listed my chip with the AKC, it doesn't list your phone number just the companies.

I'm pretty sure Jackson's chip is AKC brand. I'll go check in a bit, I don't have the number on me!

Thanks for posting this thread - I didn't even know there were other lookup sites than where the chip was sponsored. That's GTK.

Well the AVID site sucks. there's nothing there! There are pages that say "under construction" for ages! Avis is Avid/Petrac but can't find anything else as far as lookup sites.

I think the ipad automatically puts in a http, so that's how that happened then. Thanks for clearing that up for me.:thumbup:

I micro chip all my babies before they leave. I was told by Avid all that was necessary was to return the information with the fee and that was it. I have been doing that for over two years! Tonight, I hear from one of my parents she checked her baby's chip (she even received a letter months ago saying they had the information and all was well), and it came up as unregistered!!!! I have to find out WTF is up with this....I have all these babies running around, with owners thinking they are safe and now this!!!!! I was told all was taken care of with the fee and the return of the information....if I need to be telling my owners they have to do something else on line, I need to know this and I dont understand why Avid did not tell me! Any other breeders out there microchipping using Avid chips and paying for the service...do you do anything else to get these babies registered?

Just call Avid. I believe that it will show who put the chip in (you), but you are not listed as the owner. Someone needs to register it.

We microchip all of our pups, but they are done by our individual vets. We then register the chip in our name....then, when a pup is adopted, we add the adopter as a secondary owner. That way, if the pup is ever found by someone, the chip company will notify us and the adopter.

Those sites to look up numbers are only going to tell you what company holds the registration.
They do not give you the information online....if you are inquiring about your own pup, you can call and they will have you identify yourself prior to giving you information. This is for the protection of the animals and also the owners.
Once a person finds an animal that is chipped and they call the company, the company notifies the owner.

I really think Avid is lacking in their services compared to others, mostly Home Again. Uni was from a broker (before I really knew). She was scatterbrained to say the least and told me Uni's chip was Home Again. I registered her on HA (I had two numbers on Uni) and they took my money just fine. I really liked their user interface and that you can update info easily and upload pics. Then I ask my vet to scan her chip and what comes up. I thought the scanner would pop up the owners number right away. He said no, just the chip number and they have to figure out which company it's from. He said her number format ###*###*### is Avid, not HA. So I contact Avid and there's nothing on their site! I call them up and I fax in her form and send money. They say everything is up to date, but I go and check on this Chip Registry lookup site and nothing. Perhaps that site doesn't work with Avid at all? I"ll need to call Avid on Monday.

Anyway, if Avid told you that was all you had to do, I'd be livid as well having all those dogs not being registered with them! With our rescue, we also use Avid, and I was told whoever gets the paperwork on the chip files it and it's done. That even though I recieve the foster with the Avid paperwork I don't have to do anything. I wonder if this is correct or not.

I personally prefer Home Again. They are great to deal with!

That is exactly what they told me!!! I have my people fill out the paperwork, I am listed as implanter as well as second contact, and I personally pay the fee and mail in the paperwork....my buyers then receive a letter from Pet-track telling them they have received the paperwork, the fee and all is well. But then when my one buyer went to double check, she is told on the site that the number is not registered!!!! yOU ARE RIGHT....i AM LIVID!!! AND I HAVE TO WAIT TIL tUESDAY TO GET AHOLD OF SOMEBODY....MONDAY IS A HOLIDAY....DOUBT THEY ARE OPEN!!!!

My vet had to return all Tibbe's info, I then got a letter saying I was welcome, officially noting his chip#, birthdate, breed, etc., and directing me to go online and register him at Home Again website and then keep checking yearly to be sure it's all still correct. And it was until I checked last week when I worried the superstorm might have caused them problems and dataloss there in New Jersey. Well, something had caused a lot of dataloss on my account and though my contact name, address, one phone number and email were there, NOTHING else was anymore. No backup or secondary contact info, health info, license #, color/weight info, special info about body anomalies, identifying marks, etc., birthdate, picture - nothing. So I had to update all of that and oh, by the way, when I tried to first sign in, it didn't recognize the chip # as matching my last name or email! I called them, they couldn't explain why I got that message online, gave me a temp password and I signed in and updated everything again, including the password.

Just as advised above, call them and find out what to do to fix it all.
