| Joels new behavior So lately when my sister comes up to me like to help me on the laptop, Joel jumps up and kinda jumps at her(not biting) and wedges between us. When I tell him to stop and be nice he will stop and actualy start licking her. Is this okay as long as he stops after I say be nice? Or should he not be doing it at all. I don't know why he does that, she's his second favorite person ever and they play all the time. Me and my sister are really close so I would think he could sense it or something. Any advice?? |

| As it could lead to biting eventually, I would try to put a stop to it right away. It's either jealousy or protection, and you have to let him know that neither is okay. It will be easier to stop it now, rather than waiting till later...

| Thanks :D Here's a pic for example. I was on the laptop, and I asked my sister to pretend to look at the laptop, and Joel went between us and put his front paws on her back. As you can see his butt is still up so it's not like he was even trying to lay down. He stayed like that for a while until I told him to get off. But to me it looks like he was holding her down to keep her away from me. So to stop him before it happens, what should I do? Instead of teaching him not to protect me how do I teach him he doesn't NEED to? |

| It is a show of dominance when he puts his feet on her. I would pick him up and set him on the floor, sit , stay so he won't interfere with your interactions with other people. Just an 'Ah, ah' when he starts to move in, if he stops, fine, if not, then onto the floor. I know it's very cute when they do things like this, but it can lead to problems as he gains confidence in himself.

| I thought it could be he was protecting you, or... he wants His attention 1st from her.

| If a dog puts it's foot on you in a way that seems to be trying to hold you down or to some how get it's way that is dominance. If he is just trying to be the center of attention then he is just being a clown. It's always a good idea to teach our dogs basic obedience commands so that they always know who is in charge. He is so just so darn cute! |
