YorkieTalk Newbie! | Baths? Well I have spent some time looking for bath advice and now just going to ask what works. A groomer told me only to bath my yorkie puppy once a month or the skin will get dry? I have seen people post that they bath their yorkies once a week? What is best? |

| Yorkies have hair not fur so its different then other dogs and if using a good shampoo the skin will be fine. Callie sometimes gets one once a week but its more like every two weeks right now.

| Hi! I bathe my dog once per month, but I've read that it depends how stinky you're dog is. Some people bathe their dog once per week. In between baths I use Natures Miracle brand bath wipes to keep my dog clean and smelling good. If I were you I wouldnt bathe my dog more than twice per month to avoid dry skin. Make sure you dont get water in their eyes or ears during bath time..Good Luck!! |

| I bath my dogs once a week most of the time. Occasionally we skip a week. I use an oatmeal doggie shampoo and conditioner. They do not have any issues with dry skin. I avoid any overly scented shampoos. |

| I try to bathe mine every 2 weeks. I use several different shampoos, a medicated (from vet) or oatmeal or baby shampoo) and I always use a conditioner. So far we've not had any problem with dry skin.

| Since she likes leaves, Lucy starts to get smelly in about a week. I use Yorkie Splash & Shine products and haven't had a problem with dryness. The bathing has also gotten her used to a daily grooming regimen. It may also depend upon whether you keep a short or long hair cut. Lucy is long, so I groom her daily and bathe frequently. You may be able to stretch it out if you keep the hair in a shorter cut. Good luck. Tracey |

| I bathe Mandie every Saturday. She is a tomboy and loves to run and roll around outside. I use baby shampoo or oatmeal shampoo. Her skin doesn't seem to get dry but, even with conditioner, her hair gets dry/fly away. I just started using some argon oil spray after her bath and it seems to help with that.

| Oh, don't we all......!!!! We bath Harry every 7-10 days, and use conditioner too - making sure we rinse, rinse + rinse again to make sure every bit has been washed away. Rinsing, I believe, is the key to ensuring dry skin conditions don't happen - enjoy! Sally + Harry x |

I do a much less popular 2x a week bath. Kaji's skin is fine. He doesn't have overly dry skin. It works for us and keeps my allergies in check since Kaji's hair is worse than a swifer duster. It collects EVERYTHING.

| Harley gets a bath once a week, but e have a dirt back yard( for th life of use can't get grass to grow) plus he has other dogs to play with so he gets drooled on lol. I bathe him myself, I took him to the roomer when we first adopted I'm because he was so matted, but now it's easy to clean him up

| I think I would check into what your groomer uses to bathe her clients in if she thinks that a weekly bath will dry out the skin. There are several quality brands of all natural shampoos and conditioners that will not dry out the skin or the fur when used weekly. Some dogs need a weekly bath and if they go outside regularly they probably need to be bathed frequently. Regular bathing will help the puppy or dog get accustomed to grooming and they will learn more quickly how to behave during these sessions. Gracie has a long coat and to keep it looking good she really needs a weekly bath. I use all natural shampoo and conditioner and she always looks and smells great. We have never had a skin problem. |
