YorkieTalk Newbie! | new pup My dog had a boy pup today and she is breathing fast sometimes even panting at times, is this just anxiety? She seems to be ok when I come around, sometimes she picks the pup up and carry it around to find me, the pup cries alot when she does this, could she be hurting him? |

| You might want to post in the breeder section...how's the new momma & puppy? Congrats! Did the placenta come out? Was an x-ray done to see if she indeed only has 1 pup?

| When you had your pre-whelp xrays done, how many puppies were visable? Did she only have one baby on xray? Next you need to be sure she delivered the placenta with the pup you do have on the ground. Does mom have a whelping box, where she had her baby? She should not really be carring to baby all over the house...yes, she could hurt him....she should be at least contained in a playpen, with a "nesting box" where she is comfortable and secluded with her new baby. You need to be sure you have the ambient temp correct or the baby will not survive!...When you take momma and baby into the vet tomorrow for your well baby check, be sure you let the vet know if you are certain the placenta was delivered. Momma should be calming down, settleing in with her baby....you need to check her temperature and make sure she hasnt spiked a fever. If she continues to pant and breathe heavily, this is an indication there is a problem of some kind...you need to have a vet see her at an emergency clinic. Has her milk dropped? Is she feeding the baby? Be sure you are weighing the baby at least once a day to be sure his weight gain is tracking correctly. Congratulations on your new baby! We are anxious to see baby pics!
