| Thank you so much YorkieTalk.com for saving my stewie Dear Yorkie Talk.com, Pardon my long letter, but from the bottom of my Yorkie loving heart I want to tell you thank you I think you saved my new puppy. About 4 months ago I began learning about Yorkie's and my landlord gave me permission to have a pet. I was excited, took all the time in the world to go to pet shops, shelters, other pet-stores, read online every thing i could to make sure this was the perfect pet for me... I don't know why I doubted myself, this pet can be perfect for anyone! Once i had enough knowledge a shopped around for 2 months, read store reviews and it was so horrible just horrible about abused dog, uncared conditions and these puppy mills just drove me to tears. I tried to go within 100 miles of new york to adopt a yorkie (to Save-A-Puppy) yet I had no luck. I found a reputable boutique (on the pricey side) that I visited 5 or 6 times.. I think I found the perfect pet. On Wednesday Oct 10, 2012, my story begins... I bring home Stewie a 10 week old Yorkie 1.8 lb wee wee pad trained and is so full of energy and love i just couldn't lay my eyes off him!! $1100 later (the shop gave me "a steal deal") sends me home with 2 can adult cesar foor and 2 can adult Might Dog food. Then they give me a bag of dry food Eukanuba. They also include medicine Clavamox and Sulfa mezaph... something. Long story short I am told puppy not sick its just preventive because he was around other puppies. I was fine, still ecstatic, puppy was full of energy playing with me receptive to toys and food, water... nothing in the world can be wrong. Thursday I called Banfield Hospital registered with them for puppy care all was great. Friday October 12 0900 - I take stewie to doctor visit with me, he is never left out of sight. Friday October 12 2:00PM - I am home playing with him and decide to give him his meal #2 of the day (feeding 9am, 3PM, 6PM, and 10 pm of wet food broken in quarters (1 can a day) and dry food out all day) I he goes to eat he throws up. Fast forward between 2 and 4 he throws up like 5 times.. Im alarmed I start googling my puppy keeps throwing up and I am calling freinds that are yorkie owners they all tell me its normal and im just freaking out. however I come across posts from your forum that really dont put me at ease and that this was not normal it is very dangerous for a puppy that young to throw up that much fast forward later that night-- i dont give him meds leave the food out the poor thing has an appitite he goes to try and eat and not more then 5 minutes... food is back out on the floor. I keep going through your forums and i knew something was wrong despite what my friends saying "how cute i was by being a new puppy mom" Stewie threw up over 20 times in less then 24 hours. By the time it was 6 am He was so tired and worn out and lifeless I rushed him to emergency room The second it opened. Benfeild hospital Vet. Deemed Stewie unfit for sale. and told me to get my money back from the store. Stewie was so dehydrated his sugar was dropping Vet said she needs to put him on iv and to get him fixed up it would be 1000 a night. I called the puppy store and they tried to tell me that they dont cover that type of illness. Vet got on the phone had to tell him he basically had a lawsuit the dog could of died that day. Well he immediately told me to go to the vet he uses and the store vet has my stewie now. I am so thankful to you guys and your knowledge on yorkies to us new owners my new baby would of died if I listened to "I know everything my yorkies is 9 years old" friends. Bless you all. Katie P.S.Doctor called me today and said they didn't find any parasites in his stool nor did he swallow anything. But he is doing much better and that she is sending his samples to the lab for further research to make sure he will be safe at home with me when he will be ready to come back. I love my stewie so much im so heartbroken. |

| did they have a health guarantee and medical records for you as well as his parents medical history when you bought him you are very lucky he didn't die, your $1100 puppy mill dog just cost you another $1000 I hope Stewie pulls through, the poor wee soul. What was the name of your upscale pet shop? |

| Thankfully the pet shop owner said he is paying for all the medical expenses. He said the original vet gives a 1 year guarantee. Thats where he is now under watch. I do have the parent names and the registered #'s. He gave me a letter for the Breeder Kathy White in IL who for additional $20 can give me their medical history. The name of the shop is Puppy Boutique in Brooklyn, NY. Benfield Hospital only had me pay $200 for the tests due to him not being fit for sale because he was so sick in such short time. |

♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | I am so sorry you had to go through this. I really hope poor little Stewie pulls through. Sorry but I really have to ask this...why after reading YT did you buy from a pet store? I'm really not kicking you when you are down, I'm just curious. I bought my first two from a byb....found that out when I joined this forum....I researched and hunted and asked question before I bought my little one, now 4mths old...it took me nearly 6mths before i found what I was looking for in a breeder. Thankfully my first two are healthy so far, had I known what I learned from YT before I bought them....they would not be here. Make no mistake I love them to bits...I got lucky, they are healthy...I did not make the same mistake when I added Jersey to the family. I am sure should you decide to add another, you too will not make the same mistake....poor, thing, he is so tiny to have to go through this...and so far you are now 1000.00 poorer. I feel for you, hopefully it is nothing serious.

| I am very sorry this tends to happen with pups from puppy mills. No matter how good a pet store seems no good breeder would ever let a pet store sell there pups. I would be very leary of the vet the pet store uses because a lot of pet stores will pay off the vets to say the pup is healthy. Please in the future don't get a pup from a pet store or before 12 weeks. Hope your pup is gonna be ok.

| You like many have been scammed. "Pet Boutiques" that sell puppies are selling you puppy mill stock. You could have gotten a beautiful healthy pup for not much more than what you paid for this poor little guy. Many good breeders sell their pet stock for that much. It is a shame that people get taken in by people like this and many of the puppies do die. I am amazed that your puppy survived this long with that amount of vomiting. A small puppy dehydrates quickly and when their blood sugar level goes down they die. There is a lot of good information on YT about puppy care. Read in the library section and the "sticky" area at the top of every forum topic area. I don't know where you live but $1000 a night for a puppy that is only being hydrated is kind of high. You might want to consider checking around for more reasonable medical care if you are looking at an extensive stay. I'm not saying look for cheap care but more reasonable but reputable caregivers. The dog food the Boutique gave you is bad stuff. You might want to get information about better dog foods. There is a lot being found out about the big pet food manufacturers. They use way too much grain and low grade ingredients. Here is a link to a site that gives you rating of dog food and explains the ingredient lists. It's a start anyway. Never change a puppy's food quickly. It should always be done gradually over several days. If your puppy makes it the vet may send him home on a special food to keep him going for a while. http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/ Last edited by gracielove; 10-14-2012 at 10:09 PM. |

That's so poopy for you and Stewie and great for the vet not charging you up the wazoo. I'm glad the shop owner is taking some responsibility here. How are your nerves and how's your wee Stewie doing? | |
