Help: 9 wk old puppy with REALLY SHORT hair?
 
I'm going to go look at a reduced price yorkie that appears to have thick, but SHORT hair? Do you think he'll grow out like a normal yorkie? I highly doubt it's not full bred as his siblings are posted on the same site. They have much longer hair that appears fluffy. I've had a yorkie before so it seems odd. Below I've attached a link with a few photos, please tell me if you think his hair is normal. It appears to be silky, just maybe very slow growing? Has anyone else seen this? Pics would be greatly appreciated :)

Red Flags....Their site says they are APR registered not AKC and they are priced really low.
I'm thinking commercial breeder but I'm far from an expert.

I dont think a $500 yorkie is cheap. My last yorkie was $400 and I thought he was perfect. I'm not looking for a show dog, just a cute one that's hopefully no larger than 6 lbs with a great personality. If this dogs only flaw is really slow growing hair than I think he's more than worth the $250 they're asking for...I will further research about APR registery. I think all the other puppies look pretty legit though.

I would be a little worried about buying a Yorkie from a breeder that cross breeds. Unless your not looking for a pure bred Yorkie. But they advertise Yorkies and morkies this alone would make me pass them up. Not to mention the very low costs, would have me worried about if I'm getting a healthy baby or not. But that's just my opinion and maybe someone else can shine more light on the situation.

I don't trust that registry.

That's a heck of a lot if puppies for one breeder, seems more like a broker site to me.

Diet, and grooming supplies make a world of difference in coat condition too.

I just want to point out that I have done my own research on apr and akc registered dogs to form my own opinion about it. Therefore, I want no further opinions based on the registration, and please none about the breed. Ill determine that when I go see the dog. If anyone can now post based on my initial thread question, I would appreciate it, thanks

Please do not get a puppy that is younger then 12 weeks. Yorkies need to stay with there mothers until 12 weeks and please make sure that genetic testing was done on the parents of a pup. There is no way to tell the weight of a puppy until it is fully grown. Also people who have that many puppies can not put the attention to each littler of puppies like a good breeder can. The puppy does look like a mix and the only trustable registry is the AKC. I would also make sure to get a health guarantee. Also good breeders do not breed mixes because a reputable breeder breeds to better the breed and morkie is not a breed.

A healthy pup should be at the top of your want list and in order to make sure you are more likely to get a healthy pup I would listen to people on the board about a reputable breeder.

As I just mentioned, PLEASE no more posts that are NOT directly related to my initial thread question. I DO NOT CARE about concerns dealing with its registry OR it's breed. I am not looking for a PERFECT puppy that is champion AKC registered, I care about the question I asked about the puppy's short hair. Not everyone can afford THE PERFECT PUPPY that costs $1000. Im not stupid, I'm going to look at the dogs soon and will come prepared with questions. I thought this site was intended to help yorkie owners, not torment them. I'm starting to regret signing up...

If you didn't want anyone to comment then why did you post? If you've truly done your research on CKC, ACA, APRI and AKC then you would know that people would comment. And in your post you said you would research further, then an hour later said you had researched?? I hope you did more than an hour of research.

And just so you know, I have a friend who has a coffee table registered with the APRI as a great dane. They will let anyone register anything.

$500.00 for a purebred, registered Yorkie is CHEAP. You're going to get what you pay for. You yourself said something doesn't seem right about the hair, so why risk your money, the puppy's health and a heartache??
A puppy doesn't have to be perfect to be AKC registered. But breeders will hide behind APRI, CKC and ACA because the AKC wont accept their inbred, cross bred and genetically imperfect dogs.

We are trying to educate you and that is what this site is for. We don't want you supporting a bad breeder and we want you to get a healthy pup. If you can not afford a healthy pup from a good breeder how can you afford the health care when you might be getting a pup that could be sick or have genetic issue that can cost you thousands of dollars? Or how will you be able to afford regular vet care, meds, emergency vet care and any other things this pup would need? No pup is perfect but they should be healthy.

It sounds like the same person keeps commenting. I KNOW THE RISKS, I'm not stupid. Thanks for the concern, but just cuz it's not AKC registered doesn't mean a thing. It's solely based on the integrity of the breeder. I know all the risks. This dog will either be yorkie or morkie. How bout pretend the dog is full bred yorkie AKC registered, read my initial post over again, and then answer about his fur. Cuz that's the question I wanted answered.

I just want to say in here you said you don't want to talk about breed. They are answering your question. It maybe not the way you want but they are answering. Basically if you want a purebred yorkie, and guaranteed purebred the AKC is the only one that you can have that guaranteed. With the others you registries don't get that. And since it might be a mix breed there is not way of knowing what mix it is and what length hair it will be. From the way the puppy looks. I personally think it is a mix breed.
