Unfortunately, some of the hardest, well taught lessons are the result of the cruelest, most heart breaking well learned mistakes. There used to be a country western song about, "If you're sitting on the train tracks, and you hear the horn and whistles and bells, and see the flashing red lights, and you dont move, whose fault is it when you get run over?"...or something like that! I used to love that song....reminded me of ME in my younger, stubborn, headstrong days.....I finally learned I could avoid all the heartache and misery if I let OTHER people go thru it and then tell me about it!!! I LEARNED TO STAND STILL AND LISTEN!!! |

Very well said.... I often find myself Standing Still AND Listening. I just told a friend the other day sometimes you have to get out of your own way and stop hindering your growth and progress! |
OP, that "cheap" puppy just may end up costing you BIG TIME. Please reconsider. There are reputable breeders where you can get a nice healthy pup for not too much more cash. And please don't forget that the initial cost of the puppy is PEANUTS compared to the expenses of caring for a pup. Vet care, premium food, flea/tick preventative, grooming and grooming supplies, not to mention all the little extras that most of us like to have for our dogs such as clothing, strollers, pretty leashes, etc.... I hate to think of you getting this obviously poorly bred pup and being slammed with high vet bills. From the looks of that site, this is a broker. They will know nothing of the parents of these puppies, and probably don't even know who the sire is:rolleyes: They just breed these poor dogs to death and they get no vet care, no love, live in filth, and have litter after litter, only to be disposed of when they can no longer produce pups. Please don't support this type of breeding. Keep saving your money and use that time to find a great breeder. Everyone here will help you find one in your area. I hope that you'll stay and learn about the breed, and share stories and pictures of your new pup. |
We had a girl on here that went ahead and bought from a puppymill eventhough we pleaded with her not to and the dog ended up having serious behavior problems and also health problems and then she understood and became a big advocate against puppymils. Sometimes people have to learn from their own mistakes unfortunately. |
I try to encourage people that are looking for a puppy, to STOP looking at puppies....they are ALL adorable and you just fall in love with ANY AND ALL of them....dont look for a puppy, LOOK FOR A BREEDER...GET A TRUSTWORTHY, RESPECTABLE, ETHICAL BREEDER, AND THAT BREEDER WILL HAVE YOUR PERFECT PUPPY! All these babies look alike...it is what is going on inside where YOU cant see, that the breeder has done everything in her power to be sure it is all put together correctly and working in tip top shape, assured as much as possible thru her breeding program.....you DO NOT GET that concern and care and planning from a puppy mill! And it does not come for $250.00 either! And, God forbid, something DOES malfunction, an ethical breeder will stand with you and behind her baby...she loves that baby even MORE than you do, and it is never far from her thoughts and heart, even years down the road. |
put yer money back in yer pocket and wait and find yourself a breeder that is reputable. That's all I'm saying |

I want that to be the mantra for the rest of my life I love it |

I just adore your way with words, Listen to her, she knows what she is talking about |
Can someone add the breeder's full name Pat Koedam to the tags here and perhaps her husband Jerry Koedam as well for future searches so they come up under their full real names? Please thank you...amazing how so often you can spot these types miles away when you know what you're looking for-with that comes a responsibility of warning others. |

Listen to all the advice you are being given, no need to be condescending no one is calling you names they are experienced in the art of puppy mills and don't want you to end up heart broken IF there ends up being something wrong with the pup. Be responsible and go with your heart but use your head |

And yet again, one doesn't go to a show breeder to buy a "pet" because they want a show dog. They come to us, for a number of important reasons. The care, attention, passion, and dedication of the breeder, and the all around quality of the dogs we produce. They place a premium on health, temperament and structure, and value the support they will be given over the lifetime of a pup we place with a vetted owner. |

Stand still and listen....no truer words ever spoken.......take it or leave it, but at least HEAR it............. |
OP I would run and hide from that website/ puppy. Why would you want to buy a “reduced price yorkie”? Would you buy a reduced price car that you knew nothing about? If a Yorkie is something you want again, I would look long and hard to find the perfect one. Bargain shopping is not something you should be doing in looking for a puppy. The puppy is very cute, however do you want the risk of dealing with a sick puppy? Yes he is $250, but those Vet bills add up pretty quick, plus there is no amount on heart ache. There is a chance you will buy him and he can have no sickness and he could be that perfect discounted puppy you are looking for- I personally would look elsewhere- I would not take that chance. I wish you the best of luck in your search, hopefully you are able to find your perfect healthy puppy! |
Wow, I just read through this whole thread and all i can say is... "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." Wow, just wow! |

no I was quoting the good advice |

OP, PLEASE DON"T buy from these people. Take your time & research more as you don't want heartache. There are lots of Reputable Breeders who place pet quality pups in good homes for a very reasonable price & sometimes free. |

OP . . . I have been a pet lover and been owned for a long time. Dogs, cats, fish, even an iguana. I am a person looking for a pup since before I became a member. I am OCD. I research everything. I had knowledge of puppy mills, Byb and the YTCA. Then I found this group . I read a bunch of threads. I said wow there is a lot of great information here. I want to become a member. I did. I ask questions. I answer questions. I learn from them. Everyone does not know everything. That is why we ask questions and learn. I still don't have a puppy. But when I get one, I will have a ton of knowledge in my back pocket. And a huge support system with the stuff I don't know. Please understand that everyone here wants you to get the best pup you can. And you don't have to spend $2000-$3000 doing it. So please take a step back, take a breath and take everything in. Bottom line you do what you want. But know that we are here for anyone that wants help, show a pic or tell about our day. We are a dorky yorkie family ;) |
I see the OP has also been Banned! I hope she doesn't get the puppy, but think she likely will. |
Wow....just....wow!!! I have no words...just wow. Just read through this thread and see that AJBoogie and OP have been banned....no words of advice from me...its all been said...'sigh' OP will probably go ahead and get the pup...:( |

You have to have violated YT rules to get banned. Not implying as I don't know but sometime private message content, and ip address concerns result in bans. For the sake of later readers....pup mills and brokers often use off site locations to meet potential buyers at...even their homes. So if you see 48 puppies listed born within 9 weeks and when you show up and parents aren't on site or there's only a few of the site listed dogs/puppies there...it's quite safe to assume you aren't seeing the whole picture...for whatever reason. |

This is SO LONG. Apologies in advance I haven't read to the end but OP, honestly, no one here posts to try and keep you from having the best Yorkie baby you can find. The thing is, with this many people having seen and experienced so much both good and bad, everyone comes quickly to try and help you make an informed decision. When I first signed up, I had a deposit on a beautiful girl, Foxxy Cleopatra. I came here to learn to be the best mom I could be to her but she died before I ever got her home. I got her brother, someone took him from me. When no one else in life understands the love of your Yorkie, YT does. I know it may seem like everyone is trying to talk you out of an affordable new baby but I can promise you that's not the case. They...we are just passionate about everyone having a healthy, happy baby that will grow to be what they had hoped. The members here are owned by their Yorkies and are only here to help. I'm sorry this is so long but just think, everyone could have given you the 'it's so cute' posts then you get the baby home and need tons of money to treat ailments. Also, I learned that when a member warns you about a registry, it's not in the spirit of 'oh my dog is AKC, that dog is not. It's not worthy' what they are saying is people use a registry to put you at ease and make you think oh it's registered so it's all good. I had a woman trying to stud her dog admit that she had him registered with CKC as a Yorkie AND as a silky terrier. He is obviously silky or silky mixed but imagine the puppies from him and unsuspecting person she doesn't tell what she did. They are only saying buy your breeder. When corners are cut when breeding, you don't know what to expect. Both my Yorkies are CKC and amazing little men but with Maxximus I knew what to look for thanks to reading here. I'm willing to bet you that if you choose to bring that baby home, every member here will be by your side for any help you need on training, potty training, anything. They aren't judging. Just saying to you that you are in the perfect position to be choosy and find your perfect pup. If this baby warms your heart, he will be yours and everyone here will be aunties because Yorkies they love....bad breeders they do not. Please reconsider how you feel about the responses. The answers were to look out for you. The members here believe everyone she be owned by a Yorkie. They are so amazing and totally different from other breeds. This forum will stand with you. We all have babies from all types of situations. But you are in a position to choose carefully. We all know that want it now feeling. It took me over a year to find first one and months to find second. Everything will be ok. Sorry about the novel. I've just been in your predicament. Looking at a Yorkie and thinking well it's not really like I thought it would be but maybe it will grow up to be......probably won't. Follow your heart and I think others will agree that we will be there for you because our love is for Yorkies and want the best for them. Don't feel like its your only chance to have one. The right one finds you. My Maxximus did. I wasn't even looking for one, I was searching for my stolen Yorkie Choppa when I found him. The members here have seen horrible things being done just to make money off of a puppy so they take breeders very very seriously. When you think about all of the money it takes to properly breed and raise these babies before they go to new homes, you Definately wonder why they want this baby gone so badly they drop his price so much. A trustworthy breeder is in it to give the puppies good homes and care where they go. I would never have known these things if someone hadn't taken the time to care enough to share what they knew. I wish you so much luck finding the perfect Yorkie. The fact that you even came here shows that you are already preparing to be a great Yorkie mom. ;) Ok YT. I will shut up now. |
Dang that's long. |
