When I was 16, a small dog ran out in front of me. thre was nothing I could do. I slammed my breaks, but hit it anywway. I watched it run into a neighborhood yelping. Unfortunately, I was in mild shock. When I shook it off, I drove into the neighborhood looking for it but I never found it. I attribute it to the fact that I sat in shock in my car for too long. I still feel terrible about it. A few months ago, I watched two young deer run through a busy intersection. A car slammed into both of them. I can still hear the cracking sound in my head. I watched the deer stumble out of the road. They obviously had broken bones. I called the police, but again, there was nothing I could really do. It bothers me to this day. The worst part, is the person who hit them, kept driving. He didnt even slow down |
Despite my insurance agent personally buying me a deer whistle I have hit 5 deer 3 in one accident, me and the suv beside me. I attribute it to where I used to live in a newly devloped previously wooded area...and where I worked at the time. All my deer accidents were between 17a and 21 years old...its a joke in my family I dont deer hunt with them, only on the highway. My worst car accident qas when I swerved to miss the deer and drove off a cliff, never swerve. I ran over a chipmunk of all animals and still feel bad about it. I was only going about 10mph saw it on a tree beside the road and it literally spontaneous ran under my car. |
My sister had a Great Pyranees who got a terrible ear infection. She had him chained at times to keep him from running in the road, but he broke the chain and ran out into the road. My daughter ran desperately after this sweet animal and tried to save him. She had picked up the chain, but the dog was still in the road and a car was coming at a high rate of speed. My daughter had no choice but to drop the chain. However, the dog did not get out of the road and in spite of there being clear visibility, the driver never slowed or tried to avoid hitting the dog. The car wheels ran over the chain, pinning the dog to the spot and causing him to get the full impact of the car. It threw the dog completely up in the air and onto the other side of the road. The car never slowed, but continued on its way with the broken part of the chain and collar wrapped around its wheel well. The dog ran up our driveway and forced himself into a small rabbit hutch we had, terrified, hurting and in shock. We had to tear apart the cage to get him out and rush him to the vet. Surprisingly, the only injuries to the dog were severe bruising and a collapsed lung. We took the dog to live with us, inside a fenced yard and he lived many happy more years. |

I did get a picture of the doe eating out the bird feeder by my bedroom window. Wish I had saved it on my computer. I printed it out to show the grand kids. She was only about 2 feet from the screen on my window. During the summer there are a lot of green things available to eat but I guess she just prefers the birdseed! |
I always feel bad when I see a dead animal on the road and thought maybe I was weird. Guess not! |
