Pedigrees are as good as the breeder they come from. I am not saying your dog is not a yorkie, but if you check the AKC descriptions a yorkie is square and a silky is more obolong. that is what one of the main criterias when a judge is looking at at a show.. My Dyson is starting to look more squarerish i am hoping he grows longer, and I have a very good pedigree for him, remember this breeds can always throw back a lesser looking baby, is all in the DNA..a silky can throw back a yorkie looking dog, because a silky is a mix of the yorkie and the australian terrier, a yorkie has no reason to throw back a silky , unless australian DNA is mix in there somewhat.. this been our argument for a while.. hugs, |
4 Attachment(s) I really think Jackson is a Silky most of the time. It's impossible to know, as I did not get him from a good breeder, and I suppose odds are he's a badly bred Yorkie. But even compared to other bigger/"teapot" Yorkies, he just has a different "look" about him. Also a different personality. NEVER have I met a Yorkie that was like him necessarily. I can't exactly pinpoint it. But he's certainly got all the Silky features... longer than he is tall, longer muzzle, more erect ears, and follows the temperament pretty closely, etc, etc. |
3 Attachment(s) Here are some Silky's for reference. |
My chachi doesnt look like a silky in the face I know I have a badly bred yorkie. he is oblong though not square but hes also a bigger yorkie andd thats what I contribute that to. MY Jewels who is 8 lbs is more square |

Your boy is adorable and so lucky to have found his way into your home. My Mylee is a Silky and I have also done a lot of research. At one time I thought I wanted to raise them. While your boy doesn't look a lot like my girl there may be some Silky in there somewhere. It's always fun to get the different opinions and perspectives and at the end of the day you still have your adorable boy to love. It just doesn't get any better than that. |

Ops silky. Orion looks like a silky yorkie hybrid. Just opinions DNA testing is the only way to get a correct answer. |
The ideal Yorkie is square, but few Yorkies are ideal. Many pet breeders want to breed Yorkies with short legs (because pet owners like this) and you might get a short Yorkie with a long body. I've heard that the biggest difference between a Silky and Yorkie is that a Silky cannot grow its coat to the ground. Even the show Silkies have coats several inches off the ground. |
Here is a silky video - and yes ellington raises his paw like they say! Dogs 101: Silky Terrier : Video : Animal Planet |
