I just found out my 15 yr old yorky Myles is in Kidney failure If anyone read my previous post about myles you will know who i am talking about. I did take him to the vet yesterday he did blood work to see how his kidneys were to determine if he was capable of undergoing teeth extractions. He called just now and said his renal function worsened. He is not capable of undergoing surgery. How sad is this I have been crying, does anyone have any yorkies in my boat. He said low protein diet he is hardly eating now he doesnt eat much protein. a lot of fluids just supportive care. He is comfortable not in pain It is just sad to know he may die soon thanks denise |
Im sorry just take it day to day and make those days count |
So very sorry, I must say that 15 yrs is a good long time to have him in your life. I can only wish for that long with the four of mine. Hold on to those great memories that made yours and his life worth living for and try not to think of what is most likely to come soon. Keep your little guy comfortable and do what ever it takes to make the remainder of his life here on earth the best that it can be. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts. |
Oh I am so sorry. I can imagine only imagine how you feel. :( Yorkie Talk is here for support. Hang in there. Prayers. |

I'm so sorry. Keeping you and Myles in my thoughts and prayers. |
Denise I am very sorry you and your sweet boy Myles are going through this. I can totally relate to how you feel. We are all here for you. Hold on to the wonderful memories and cherish the days ahead. Prayers for you and Myles from Georgie and I. |
Oh I'm so sorry. My Presley is 16 and I'm watching for signs of this. From what I've read they can live a bit longer with proper diet and care...some even years. I hope this is the case for your sweet baby. |
I'm so sorry that you and Myles are going thru this. My Sammy had kidney failure. He was 13. Just follow your vet's advice with food etc. and enjoy every precious moment with Myles. My thoughts and prayers are with you. |
I'm so sorry to hear about Myles. My little girl, Ashley, passed away two years ago right before her seventeenth birthday. I was unable to prepare myself for losing her, but I cherished each day with her. She needed a great deal of care because she had dementia, yet each day with Ashley was very special. I hope Myles responds to a change in diet. He is probably feeling nauseous because of the toxins in his body, but he should feel better with a lower protein diet. I hope you have many, many more precious moments with Myles. |
My Pudding' lived with renal failure the last 8 years of her life that got progressively worse. She loved the home made meals I made for her and she lived many more years than anyone thought. She died at age 13 and was a sweetly to the end. I think of her fondly daily! Love her and keep her comfortable and think about all she has given you. |
I am very sorry about your sweet Myles. Treasure the time you have with him and spend as much time with him as you can. !5 years, that is wonderful. God Bless you |
Oh Denise, I'm so sorry. We are in the midst of c.r.f. with our sweet Lucy as well. She hated the special canned food, was listless and losing so much weight. I then tried cooking a special diet recipe from the vet. She hated the ground beef and rice in it. She much prefers chicken and potatoes. So, after discussion with my vet, I started cooking our own low phosphorus recipe. Lucy is eating, has more energy, and has gained weight. While her numbers haven't improved, they haven't gotten any worse either. At this point, I'd do whatever works to keep Myles eating and comfortable. Are you administering sub q fluids? I know we are fighting a losing battle, but if cooking for Lucy buys her some precious time, I'll gladly do it for my little sweetheart. Gentle hugs. |
wow Kim that is some great advice you gave Denise, perhaps she can try what you are doing. 15 years is a ripe old age for a pup, you must be giving him lots of love and great care, but no matter how long they live it's never long enough. Do the best you can and cherish all the moments you have with him. |

I know what you are feeling. I lost my sweet Sydney, to chronic renal failure 18 months ago. She was 14 years, 10 months, and 11 days old. And, she was my "Heart & Soul" dog. And now, my younger (13 year, 8 month old) Yorkie, ,was diagnosed in early renal failure, in July. If you want, I can p.m. you a homemade renal failure diet, that my Vet gave me. Hill's gave it to Vet's whose dogs will not eat their canned k/d. The important thing is to feed Myles, smaller meals, on a more frequent basis. And cherish every second with him. I cannot begin to express my sadness for you & your sweet Myles. Sheila |
So sPeru I my Billie for 14 long years he developed renal failure as well. Take time to make happy memories of him. I know it is hard. I have his older sis now at 11 she has some signs of a heart murmur. I know it hurts to think of the what ifs enjoy the now |
I'm so sorry for what you're going through. It's really, really hard, and there isn't any way to truly prepare for that loss. Keep your baby comfortable as long as you can. I agree, they'll let you know when it's time. I lost one of my dogs in his prime to a sudden hemmorhaging tumor and the other i put down at 14. Neither way is preferable or easier. i think I cried more over losing my dogs than when either of my parents passed. Go figure! Hugs and payers for you & your furbaby!:aimeeyork :bighug: |
I am very sorry. Prayers for you, Myles and your family. It is such a blessing you have each other. I know he loves you with all his heart. |
