Full-Time Workers Hi all, just an enquiry. Is there any members that work full time? If so what happens to your puppy / dog when you are out all day at work??? |

I work full time and Brandi is fine. We get this question a lot and the way I normally respond is to suggest that if possible setup a webcam so you can monitor your furbaby from work. I did that the first few months I had Brandi. Based on what I saw I made adjustments accordingly. In fact that's how I figured out how she was getting out of her crate at the time.:eek::eek:. Just a word of caution. I remember watching the webcam from work one day and I noticed I didn't see Brandi at all that day. At the time she had run of the upstairs and my webcam was setup in the office. Well I panicked and left work early because I thought something had happened to her.:D Needless to say she was there wagging her tail happy to see me. I had all these horrible thoughts going through my mind as I raced home. I thought she was either hurt, dead or someone had broke in and stole her. Now she has run of the house and I don't check the webcam as often any more because I know she sleeps most of the time. Here's a link to my webcam It's actually not setup but you can see what I am talking about. Every now and then she pops in. You may even see my cat. It's crooked and the webcam isn't in it's normal spot. |
My husband and I both work full time and Chloe does fine staying at home. I keep her in an x-pen, for her safety, with her food and water in it. She goes straight into her pen in the mornings while I'm getting ready for work without any encouragement. Originally, I went home at lunch and let her out for half an hour (fortunately it only takes me about 15 minutes to get home from work). But about the time she turned two, she started just looking at me like I was crazy when I'd come home at lunch and try to get her to go potty. I'd have to physically carry her out in the yard and then she'd go straight back to the door without doing anything, go back into her pen and curl up in her bed. So after a couple of months of that, I just gave up. I guess she's got a bladder of steel; she's never had an accident in her pen/on her potty pad during the day. I feel really weird about it but I can't make her go if she doesn't need to...*shrug* -C |

In fact, I found out your city from a simple IP address search |

Besides, websites record your ip addresses all the time. In many forums ip addresses are exposed all the time for any and everyone to see. |
I work full time. Up until recently though, there was always someone at the house because my DH worked a different shift or my kids were coming and going. Now DH and I are on the same shift and the girls have left home for college. Fortunately, I am only two blocks from work and I go home for lunch every day. DH has different days off and gets off earlier in the afternoon than I do. So the longest my dogs ever go is 4 hours on a couple of days but mostly it's about a 2 hour stretch alone and that's not too bad. |
We both work full time. DH leaves home after me and gets home first because he only travels half the distance I do to work. Brody and Mia are home alone...well, with the kitties...for a good chunk of the day and they do fine. They potty outdoors, but I have puddle pads set up in the house for those 'just in case' situations, and on occasion, I need to change a pad. They love to see us come home, and don't like being left at home, and try to guilt us when we go to leave when they cannot go, but I am relatively certain that they sleep most of the day. They have full run of the house all the time, but they were both two years old in March 2012. I had a Yorkie-Poo years ago and worked and he stayed home all day, too. I cannot recall him ever having an accident during the day, and I had no puddle pads at the time. Even my large dog, after he became afraid to be outside because lightning struck a tree next to the driveway he was standing in, never had an accident until he was a 'senior'...12 years old or so. |
I don't now but I did before. Doggy daycare is awesome! They get socialization, exercise, supervised, attended to, abd groomed if needed. Our daycare was awesome, everyone should be like this. http://www.itsallaboutthedogs.com/index.php |
My husband and I both work full-time. Although I work from home 3 days a week sometimes more. If I go into the office Georgie goes to Grandma's house. I think the x-pen is a great idea especially for puppies. Georgie is 7 so when we do leave him home here and there he has the run of the house. |

Web cam Yes please advise the info on a web cam and how expensive it is if you don't mind. Thank you |
Oh how I wish we had something like the doggie daycare mentioned above...I think it would be so good for my dogs to go just to visit with other dogs and socilaize. |
Thank you everyone for your replies. The reason why I was asking is both myself and my fiance work full-time. I work 5 days a week and Ed does 3 days a week (12 hour shifts) with 2 days off. This happens every 4 weeks. We have Lola confined to one room only as we are in the process of house training her. Today was the first day leaving her alone and I was increasingly worried to how she would get on. As soon as I got in through the door (after 7pm) she was there to greet me by jumping up on me and running around in circles. I felt so at ease then. Could someone tell me what an x pen is? Maybe they are just sold in America alone. We have ordered a pen for Lola which should be with us in a few days. We will not keep her in it permanently, just for house training. |
LW2912 | Lorex LIVE Wireless Video Monitoring System | Home Security Store. I started with this system to watch the dogs its awesome to use my phone to check on what's happening at home. Now we also use it fir a nanny cam and it is so inexpensive compared to a nanny cam system too. The kids love to use the intercom function. |
Also you can download webcamxp for free and install it on your computer and connect your webcam. That's it. |

My dogs get lots of socialization, not so much with other dogs though, but I would like go there and play myself. :D Oh, I'd take Brody and Mia, too...but what a great facility! |

When we first got Troy I worked full time. He was just a puppy, but he adjusted and so did I. He stayed in either an excercise pen or crate during the day. I now work from home but travel frequently and I have a baby sitter during those times. For some socialization, Troy does get to go to the dog park or doggy daycare. |
I feel for you! I know it will be me sooner or later. I only work part-time, right now my hours are 8-1 5 days a week (sometimes 9-1) and I always feel so guilty, even for only 4-6 hours, lol. He is so sad every morning now but I know he's okay, I can just tell it's taking some adjusting (I was dog walking, and taking him with me, so hardly was he left alone at all). But he's adjusted fine, and we just do extra special things when I get home. I think it's a good step to working full time and getting him acclimated. |

I actually have both of these pens. The Iris playpen is her everyday one. It's where her bed is, pee pad, food, water, toys....it's open during the day when I'm home but if I go out and she can't come with me that's where she stays. We did have to buy the mesh roof and doubly secure it cause our little girl can be quite the Houdini. The Best Pet Folding Pen is my go to travel pen. I keep it in the car for when I'm planning on spending a day with my daughter and small grand babies or visiting a friend. It has a plastic liner and zipper mesh top. I've also used it at family barbeques when there were lots of kids and bigger dogs so she could come with us but still be safe. |

My fiance and I can't get walking Lola at the moment as she needs her 2nd injection which will be taking place on Wednesday 12th September. So unfortunately she is confined to the house until then!! We have been taking her into the garden to do her doggy business and is on a harness and lead. I have to say I am looking forward to getting her out for walks. Means I can lose some exercise hehehehehehe. |
My husband and I both work full time. All 3 of my yorkies are gated in the kitchen and bathroom area. They are trained to potty outside and pee pad. I do come home on my lunch hour, but they are just fine being home all day by themselves. All they do is sleep all day, but when my daughter gets home at 1:30, they are ready to play. |
We did the expen thing as well in the beginning. Kaji now has access to the entire apartment (minus the kitchen). I can trust him not to mess, chew, or destroy anything. (except in the kitchen  that's blocked off with a baby gate) We have moved back in with my parents. Grandma is with him most of the day, and grandpa works in the building where we live, so he is in and out all day. Not that it really matters. Kaji doesn't really care for them. He sits on my bed, or my shoes and waits for me to come home. He has warmed up to my parents a bit and will come out to visit with them for 30 mins then go back to my bed. It only took Kaji 3 years to warm up to grandma and grandpa. :p |

The dogs go to my parents house when I go to work. |
I work full time...5am til 1pm. they go out in the mornings before i leave for work at 4am...son gets up for school, so they get let out again before he leaves. Iam home by 1:45 and they are super excited to see me! They do fine keeping each other company til i get home...they are gated in the kitchen/family room area....tiled and hardwood floors. |
We both work full time here. My pups stay home alone anywhere from 5 to 9 hours some days. We have a routine down in the morning outside, breakfast, outside. The dog stay in their room all day while we're gone. In my old rent home I just gated off a tile are in my kitchen, but luckily in my new home they have their own room. I also have a webcam set up, but rarely get on to check on them as they both mostly sleep all day. |

And a "certified crook" knows ALL the available methods for locating addresses from anthing they see or read, ANYWHERE! Daddy always told us NEVER publish an obit when he or momma died, the thieves and crooks scan the obits daily for opportunities.....that was BEFORE that became a common practice!....I used to think he was crazy with some of the "outlandish ideas he thought up"....OMG! He was always right on with his thoughts....just way ahead of his time! |
