| Question About Service Dogs. My DH (who will be 62 next year drives patients to appointments who are elderly as his job) will be retiring next year, and we would like to start a ministry working with some of these people in nursing homes. Just visiting and maybe taking them to the park, etc. to put a tiny bit of spark back in their lives. We would love to include Laddy and Kyra in this work but have no idea how to begin to get them qualified as service dogs. Any of you with service dogs can you tell me where to start please?

| You probably mean a therapy dog. Service dogs and therapy dogs are two very different things. Check out Therapy Dogs International

| Thank you. We have been praying about a ministry quite a while now and the stories my DH tells about some of these people is so heartbreaking. I just know the furkids would bring them that extra little spark of joy also. So hoping to find out how and where I can get them certified.

| I have been taking Hope to Petsmart for training classes. There is a series of classes she needs to take and a test to pass to be certified as a Therapy Dog. I do take her everywhere because she is my emotional support dog (I have a letter from my Dr. for this) but I wanted her to be certified so that I could take her to nursing homes and Hospice where I volunteer. My Dad is in a nursing home and has a dog that visits him every week which he looks so forward to. Good luck with your training. |

| Yes, I am aware of that. That's why Hope is going through the training process to become a Service Dog. They bring so much joy to the patients. Great thing about dogs....they will love you unconditionally. No judging on what you look like or what your disability is! |
