I think its all of the above! :D I know, not much help right? For Rusty, he's a big guy so we just put PB or something like that in it and he has a blast trying to get it out. For Tucker we put a few lose kibbles in there and he throws it around and rolls it so that the food falls out. ;) |
depending on the size you get i'm not sure if they can get all the stuff out. if you want to not spend $7/8 a can, buy a decorators tube (like they use on cakes) and put stuff in it to squeeze in. i have the same problem w/the treats falling out or being too easy to get out. |
Try cream cheese. They LOVE it! |
won't it get messy once whatever it is that you freeze up melt? like pb, cheese, and even cream cheese? |

I'm kidding, we never have much of a mess from the kong. |
i would love to try this...but I would hate to come home and creamcheese or pb are all over their bed and such. I mean...I don't mind since nyma&pa will have to clean it. lol.... |
i give mine to edgar in the bathtub. he stays in the bathroom when i'm away and it keeps him from eating more paint/drywall (whole different story! ugh), then by the time i'm home, he's licked up the mess! weee! the puppy vaccuum! since it retains the scent and some of the pb is stuck in hard to reach places he'll still play w/it in the living room. |

For a short while, we debated calling him "Hoover" because he's such a little vacuum cleaner! |
I use a number of different things in the kongs--my hubby swears that I put anything in them that will assure that they get under his feet..He steps on them all the time. I put sticky things in but all the way inside to the small end. The idea is to keep their interest so if they can get at the goodie quickly they lose interest. Mine leave them and keep going back to them. It is like they find a new toy, everytime they discover it again. You can scrub the inside of the toy with a bottle brush. I have put really yucky ones in the dishwasher but usually soap and water do the job. I actually use more soup bones that kongs. I buy the cross-cut thigh bones. Clean out all the marrow, boil them for a good while to kill any germs, wash with brush, rinse and give it to them. Then, every so often they get washed just like the kongs and boiled in fat free broth or bouillion cubes..I have done this for years and never had a bone splinter-I know some dogs can break them but not my critters. |
Get the kong brand of stuff to put in it with some treats (or I just put food) with it. |
