Dunno but imo I would never buy a dog over the internet. Unless I've meet the breeder at an Event and know there moral. Just buying random dogs over the internet never appealed to me. I like to see how they live ect.. Didn't know there was such a high market for online purchases...?? I like to pick my pup also by how they act.

AKC is not out to protect the small hobby breeder. This is about big time kennels. A small hobby breeder should have nothing to be concerned about in any of the state crafted legislation. You may want to be more concerned about city law makers that want to put regulation on everything from what your fence is made of to how many people can reside in your home.

Instead of being obstructionists AKC needs to prove that they have the best interests of the animals in mind and get together with humane organizations and legislators to craft legislation that can help stop the abuse that is rampant in what was once a humane country while also seeing that reputable breeders can continue doing their best for the breeds they represent.

I really do tend to agree with you. But surely, there are some things that they can accept in order to help dogs in general. I'm pretty sure that PETA isn't so strong or admired for their tactics that the American people are going to sit back while they drive dogs out of our arms with legislation that drives every reputable small breeder out of business! Americans love the idea of having dogs and no one loves PETA except the tiny fringe that believe their way.

But like any terrible social situation, one has to take the first drastic step and hopefully breeders and AKC can agree to accept some things that yes, will increase dog costs, but will overall help exploited dogs by having some laws that will help put those greeders in the red or even out of business for a time. Yes, they will probably pick up & move & start up somewhere else but they won't be able to afford to do that much and not indefinitely.

I don't know the answer but I know the status quo isn't it - not if you are a little dog stuck in a puppymill cage with 4 others, sick and pregnant and one of your cagemates keeps attacking you. Doglovers have to think more about her and the thousands like her and less about our rights to cheaper dogs anytime we want to walk out and get one. There is such a problem with shelters full of dogs and killing thousands daily, maybe it is time dogs become more difficult to buy.

I am not a fan of PETA. There are many humane organizations that are not "fringe" elements that are trying to stop the puppy mill situation in this country. Shelters and rescues that deal with the few that make it out alive are very active in trying to stop the low life that run such places. It would take very little in the way of legislation to curb their practices. In some ways the government is very poor at enforcement of such regulations but it would give more power to organizations that get access to and are able to report these places. I also question why the AKC is so afraid of regulations if they really feel enforcement would not be done properly by the government agencies.

I wont comment on the PETA fringe other than to say many people get involved with supporting PETA because they beleive in the ethical treatment of animals and are inaware of the true extremist and illogical advocacy of PETA now.

I think that this letter does not show random or obtuse bits at all, in fact as written it seems to show glaring obvious infractions of due process in putting forth the proposed New Ruling.

The FAQ or FACT sheet published is not worth the paper it is written on.

I know we including (I), would love if things could be simple, clear cut, unambiguous, well reasoned, and thoughtfull. This regulation fails on so many levels.

Why? Perhaps all stakeholders were not invited to participate in a proposed new regulation.

Each human can only see to the limit of their vision. Their own small view of the world. But if you solicit many of those small world views, you begin to get an overall view.

If you want to "regulate" internet sellers masquerading as good breeders, is there not another way to do it?

Why not consult with the "brains" of internet to help determine how and in which way is the best cost effective way to do this?
